You can't even get yeast to grow that fast in a LC

Well then it probably wasn't myc then or I don't remember correctly, both are possible especially the latter. All I know is someone used a stir plate and it colonized insanely fast.
Of course you're not gonna see growth for awhile using the biopsy method, that's using microscopic bits of mycelium as opposed to a wedge.
Idk how long it was until I started seeing growth in my lc, it was the one thing I ignored other than giving it a nice swirl every once in awhile but I know I had solid growth after 1 week. The jars I inoculated it with haven't shown any signs of contamination and are almost fully colonized after 5 days, well some of them at least. The last few jars didn't get as much lc and are a little behind, if it didn't tear through the grain so fast I might have given it a test shake.

Test the end media on small samples, also test contamination level. If you are being aseptic, you can be more experimental.
 Adding lime to hydration and using heat.
Do you think 24h-36h lime pasturization enough for coir as bulk like straw?

@00Burnout:
Can you remember if it was some sort of liquid expansion? A 50/50 expansion might be usable in that time.
I don't know otherwise, might be BS.

@pacmanbreed:
I cannot say, coir is expensive for me (UK). Best ask a Cubensis TC that one.
5kg of coir (brick) is: £8.80 | 12kg of paper pellets is: £10.

With a wedge my lcs are colonized in two weeks. The biopsy lc I have going now is about 80% after 2 weeks

I wouldn't use lime pasteurization for anything but very vigorous species like oysters

@Ferather that was like a year ago and I didn't pay much attention to it because I was just focused on pf tek and looking at everyone's canopies. It could've been liquid expansion
@natedawgnow well there's too very big factors we're not taking into consideration here, genetics and species. My lc was for mexicana not cubensis, which might(?) make a difference. I'll pay more attention the next time I make an lc with this culture. Like I said, I pretty much ignored it so my time frames could be a little off.
I'm not trying to disprove anything, or say my lc is better than yours or any crap like that. If I'm wrong about anything with lc's or anything else (which is a good possibility since I've only done 1) I'll gladly admit it as soon as I know I'm wrong. My advice certainly shouldn't be treated like the word of god.
@Bod, I wish I would've known about lime pasteurization when I did my oyster buckets, I've got a feeling I would've been able to do all 4 buckets in less time. Stove top pasteurization took me 14 hours all together

Has anyone been so excited to mix their colonized grain with pasteurized coir/verm and didn't let the coir/verm cool to room temp before mixing? I'm wondering if the colonized grain was damaged due to the heat. It wasn't terribly hot like 160 degrees hot, but fairly warm.

It'll be fine.

I stick a meat thermometer in the bulk sub and when it gets to 35C I start mixing. But I would be wary of mixing spawn with bulk substrate that´s over 40C.

No problem. You can got pour agar on top of a culture at 140f (assuming you're standard) and still not kill the myc, it works great for bacteria

I just loaded my monotub with Creeper spawn! But I also just went through the mental math again and realized my grain to coir/verm ratio was 1 to 4. At the last minute I elected not to use a grain jar because it smelled off. I've done some searches on a 1/4 ratio and people complain of slow colonization and contaimination. Some have used a 1/10 ratio and been fine. My question (even though it's already been done and no changing it) is, If the sub was properly pasteurized and colonized grain smell good are their negative consequences to this low of a grain to sub ratio?
