Mmm. I think the issue is more in the realm of a spore dump for you then dude if you are gone for 4 days. Drying out at the end of a flush isn't the worst thing in the world because you will be rehydrating anyway. Some pics might help. It might be better for you to harvest now and go for a second flush when you get back.

This is 1 day late

:horrified:

I will try to keep that from happening. It is a MS grow and I think I fucked up the spawn some way since it took so long to colonize, smells ok though.

It has one about to pop now and a handful of pins and a handful of everything in between now. I still have 6 days until I leave, I will try to post a pic in a few days when there is more to look at.

Yeah 6 days is nice, you can leave everything up to day 5, harvest, then dunk before day 6 and let the shit reset and by the time you get back flush #2 will be not far behind

Can I turn a old monotub into a SAB via duct tape and making one side of the bottom holes larger?
I ask because the SAB I'm using now is a tiny 20qt tub, this largest tub I have is 55qt
I'd like to save ten bucks where I can.

A SAB is no where to cut corners IMO, one of most important things you use. I was stubborn for the longest time using a 60 qt that had the lid on top and it was a major factor in my contaminations but I didn't want to believe it. Learn from my many failures bigger the better, 105 qt or better with large armholes like 5-6". So much more comfortable and less screwing around making mistakes because it's so cramped.
SBJ's build is the shit.

I actually prefer cutting the sides lol.  How does having the lid on top affect anything?  I'm assuming it's closed when you're using it?

My problem with the lid on top other than upside down on a towel was when I moved a grain jar the plastic floor would flex up and down sucking air in and out of the armholes, seems like there was something else about it but I can't think of it right now

I totally agree even in my 105 qt sometimes I wish it were bigger and taller.

Definitely seen far less contam in the big one than my old small one and so much easier to work in.

So I did three agar plates yesterday. Took a few hours. Had to duct tape up the biggest monotub I had to make a larger SAB. My old one is 20qt and I feel like the extremely small tub size was restricting my work. I took a spore print and scraped spores onto scalpel and placed spores in middle of plate. Flame sanitized one before the first two plates, then again for the third. Unsure if the second plate that wasn't flame sterilized prior will be negatively affected... we will see.

Also wasn't a huge fan of scraping a print with a scalpel. Think a swab would be much easier.

Small SABs r a PITA.  20qt seems like a nightmare.  Mine was 66qt and agar was easy but g2g was hard.

I use a scalpel for spores 99% of the time.  Swabs r cool but u have larger surface area touching the agar so more spores could get swiped than tip of blade (could be good or bad thing).  I think swabs main benefit is its way easier and faster to collect and distribute spores than traditional printing but them again the tiger drop TEK is pretty widely used So they obviously are helping people do good stuff
