My shoebox is full of sadness. It's not contaminated but all the mushrooms look tony and sad and just aren't getting bigger. I really suck at this. They look like they might be premature. I think they just got too dried out. My new boxes look better at least. There is enough humidity in my large mono to make the sides steamy. The shoe boxes not so much. I have lids closed off on everything. How much FAE should I give them now? They have been colonizing for like 3 days. I've been all depressed and not so great physically with this not eating crap but I have to keep up on these damn tubs and actually get some good fruits out of them.

I want to try proper pasteurization, but the oven method seems a bit messy (i'm a lazy fuck)
I saw some posts about doing it in quart jars in the pressure cooker, just boiling them, can't seem to find a great tek for that.
Any hints?

if you mix poo in there thats a different story, you must pasterize in order to keep benificial bacteria that will keep the sub from being infected by mold. coir has no benificial bacteria and is extremely forgiving.

Pasteurize manure and bucket tek the coir separately then mix them together upon spawning to bulk. Furthermore, it's more so the way coir is heat treated to get it into its brick form rather than coir having beneficial microbes, or any amount of nutrition that gives coir it's robustness against contamination.

Tat2guru said: Anyone have experience "shaking" your bulk sub during colonization? I used Milo and millet in my jars and it seemed to me by shaking those more often than the (25%-50%-75%) helps recovery and sped up my colonisation time. Just curious if this process could carry over to my bulk sub?... any thoughts??..GO!

cronicr said: No need it should be mixed well already

Grains require a shake at X% colonization. Grains to bulk sub are either mixed evenly, or layered and will rip through the bulk substrate in about a week or two on their own accord.

Does anyone sterilize their grain jars for 60 min? I usually go 2h with grain jars in my Presto but it´s already 2:20 in the morning here and I have two batches to sterilize and I also have a thing tomorrow at work at around 10:00, so I would gladly stertilize for only 60 min this time if I could get away with it.

I'm sure it would be much like cooking with any other dried mushrooms. I made an amazing mushroom crostini a few months back with dried morels, chanterelles, and black trumpets and I bet a cube crostini would be bomb as fuck if you seasoned it right.

I doubt you can get away with just 1 hour.

Course I know, you were so stoked that spammed it like 20 times or so, can't blame you because it was your first bulk grow. Nobody is arguing you can get a decent flush from bacterial spawn, it's just not ideal because it can bite you in the ass. Not a good thing to set the bar low and be complacent, which I think you aren't.

First of all that was like my 30-40th bulk grow, even tho this was my first go at grain. Second of all I didn´t spam it 20 times. And I´m well aware of all the risks involved in this hobby. Some risks I will get more personal with, some will be completely avoided. Everything is learning, and NOWHERE have I indicated that this is an ideal way of growing, and I don´t think that I set the bars low, but it sometimes just happens that you have suspicious spawn and you want to see how that affects the grow, I can understand that not all are this curious.
