Edit: I am not double posting for some reason my first post isn't showing up when I click on cultivation general discussion I can only see it and the answers posted when I go into my posts. Anyone know why this is? Maybe it has something to do with a few posts being moved but idk

Edit: ok I figured it out my original post was moved sorry

Cleaned the hell out of the house too.
I nocced 39 grains jars 2 days ago and did a shit ton of agar transfers yesterday.
That's gonna be the perfect test to know if my mold problem has finally been dealt with.

It's gonna be a hell of an :emotionalmoment: if all ends up being clean.

These jars are nearly done, did several shakes to ensure there was no hidden mold. Out of 39 jars only 4 triched out, an achievement considering past disasters, so I think I did away with the problem and a second cleaning and vacuuming will restore the peace.

Too bad I won't be needing a SAB anymore...

My local Lowes had a decent deal. 8 qt for a little under $5 I think.

For low amounts (not getting a giant bag) it’s a decent deal. I used it for a long time, just switched to a giant bag of coarse grade.

I doubt it, coarse is better for making cakes fine is better for rolling cakes

Does anyone else have an obsession with checking on projects, specifically checking jars? It doesn't matter what I do or where I put them, I check out everything daily, I can't help it. Does this eventually pass?

I want to just leave and forget some projects, like my truffles, but I'm addicted to watching colonization and recently, stone formation.

Lol sometimes I feel like a crazy person sitting there with a flashlight inspecting every visible grain and watching plates as if I could really see them grow. It's just too fascinating to leave alone.

I really need to get a microscope. I think if I had one I would act much like I did as a kid with my cheap science kit compound microscopes, preparing slides for everything I could imagine lol.

ime, it stays but does change form over time. It'll depend on what you feed your myco-brain. I mean, if you get interested more in mycology in foraging in fall, then you might not check on jars more than once a week even, because your myco-brain is occupied feeding on the information it's getting from the woods,
and maybe a field guide. Or microscopy or information about potential medicinal value or indigenous use. There's so much to keep your mind occupied in a freakishly obsessive manner, and I have found it possible that that takes up some of the "jar mania" I (think we all) tend to have.

The best way to remedy that is to have to much to check every day

I need to get out foraging this spring, hopefully I don't miss morel season again! I think part of it might be from beeing cooped up inside because of the weather, so I've been trying to occupy my time with building and dialing in my gh...gotta get a speed controller now, I'm pushing way too much air to keep up with the pond fogger.

So I recently had an ice storm take out my furnace and my grow area dropped below 40F for about 5 days before I was able to get a new one installed. Every project I had going has completely stalled to a screaming halt. I’ve seen zero growth on my jars and even my petri’s have shown little to no growth. Think I should just take this time to reset and clean everything out or do you think giving it time will possibly allow it to recover?

Just got heat back Monday. I’m not sure how cold it actually got since I was forced to stay with friends till the situation was resolved but it was without heat for about a week

I'd give it another couple days, I had a plate freeze once and after about a week it started growing out again. Although, the length of time frozen was much less than your period of cold temps.

I wouldn't toss shit just yet imo, but if you have empty jars I'd get some new spawn going just in case it's all fucked
