My advice is don't dye your agar green or at all. It makes it hard to tell if you have contams. It was fun the first few times. I really loved having tang colored or fuschia colored agar but it quickly became impractical. The question should be is that where the puck of agar was dropped and is the darker spot dried agar or mold. I am going to vote mold as well based on my experience of growing mre mold than cubes lately.

I dislike corn. It doesn't create as many inoculation points as rye. I am more and more tempted to try birdseed. It's just I get rye so much cheaper.

Hey guys I'm about to fruit some oysters and wondering... Will a monotub provide enough FAE or should I go the SGFC route?

Monotub will lead to flute shaped oyster, more stipe than cap.

I hope you didn't think i was trying to be hard on you. I'm still pretty new myself and make lots of mistakes. I really do love colored agar though but have decided it's best to get creative with my agar desserts instead of my cultures. I know some people use small amounts of coloring just to distinguish different agar types. Coloring has it's place as long as you can distinguish it between contams and you don't go crazy with the food dye. Mush And good luck on your project. Can't wait to see where it goes.

I have bottles almost finished colonizing but my apartment has baseboard heating and its pretty dry in here. Do you think, if I fruited open air, that misting twice a day morning and night would be sufficient?

Baseboard heating sucks. I have it too but keep it off and use a space heater that blows hot air. I wonder how much humidity is actually in the hair. I think it's not too bad though because I'm in the basement.

Yeah, migh be a tad too dry for bottles. SGFC should work but you might try one open air to see how it does. I was thinking open air more for bagged sub with holes poked.

I didn't see the pins in the bag for a day or 2. That's how I ended up with some stipe stretching. I have a few cluster aborts on there as well. It is just hanging from a board in the basement about 16 inches away from a compact florescent light. At first it was only getting misted like 2 times a day. Now I am trying to put in 4-6, along with a bit of water into the bag as the sub has dried out fast.
