Yeah, I’m working on a piece of glass in front of it and spray and wipe it down, as well as my hands and forearms and any jars that will be transferred from with alcohol. I also let the hood run for 20 min or so beforehand and practice as aseptic technique as possible. The sab has its uses but the flow hood makes life way easier and opens the door to larger sterile sub grows.

Duuuuuuuuuuuds! I have a wiener here! This is KSSS, not even half way colonized and the bitch is knotting, never seen anything like this. This is just one transfer away from the streaked plate using the poke.

I really need to solve this issue with my shroomery only going back so far unless I use the threads list. It's driving me insane and making my experience here very unshroomy. I tried signing in and out manually. I tried clearing my browser. Any other suggestions?

It's been forever since I did jars with spores. I can't remember how long it took when I started from spores last time. What is the average wait time. I see mycelium but it seems to be creeping slower than when I do plates. Is it so much slower because I haven't stabilized them yet? I'm pretty sure I know the answer to that but I don't want to guess. I'm pretty sure the jars are clean because I only see mycelium. Maybe there is more progress on the inside than the outside. I don't see any contaminants. My oysters and lions mane ripped right through the grain.
I have a few plates ready so I'm going to start off by making 9 jars per plate this time because of my previous high rate of contamination. It's better than trying to clean over 20 jars cause my dumb ass decided to try making and LC syringe from the same plate and using it for everything. I never had issues like this until this trial. I'll experiment more with LC once I get a flow hood.

Maybe doing so many jars per plate is what’s fucking you up. The culture might look good but when you start transferring, say 3-4 jars in you move a little too quickly and some mold spores stir up into the culture and onto the wedges you’re transferring, then the remaining jars are all getting a clean culture with mold spores hitched along.
I typically use 1 plate per jar. Never more than 3-4 per plate if needed

Yeah. That's why I slowed down my movement a lot last time. I just have to make sure I'm relaxed before I work. Popping a low dose ativan helps. People think it's shitty. But I really can get overstimulated and stressed out easily so it's nice to have them for parties. It doesn't fuck me up like weed. Just takes the edge off. Also great to have for coming down after a long night of whatever. I don't know how many times I've pulled friends out of anxiety attacks or brought them down from the anxiety of a night of coke. Little magic lifesavers. They just aren't for everyday use.

I want to grow oysters in a bucket. Will using lipa tek with wood pellets be ok? I figure I can use micropore tape to keep the sawdust in till it colonizes and consolidates.

I would say spawn to wood chips if in a bucket. Most bucket grows I see use straw. If you do use sawdust you could probably make a sleeve out of newspaper to put inside the bucket to keep the sawdust from falling through the holes. The mycelium will just colonize the paper. If you slip it inside another bucket that will help keep humidity up so the areas around those holes wont dry so fast.

The more I think about this bucket thing the less I think it's a good idea. I have had good luck with sterilized supplemented sawdust. Why fuck with a good thing especially after all I've been dealing with. If I decide to do buckets I'll get some straw then. Where do you get good clean cheap straw that's not full of bugs anyways.

[Total Test]
I removed the cubensis peg (nearly bald), from my 2.4% nitrogen test (pH 7 is too slow without grain). The peg was soaked for a few seconds in clean tap water to add trace chlorine to the peg.
I stewed a tea bag in 250g of hot water to remove the inhibitory materials. The bag was then stewed in 100g water + 4g sucrose (table sugar).
The peg nearly fully colonized in just 8 hours.

----
Some myth busting, trace chlorine appears beneficial, in the presence of nitrogen.
The peg absorbed added soluble nitrogen (ammoniacal, ureic). Ammonium chloride is the fastest nitrogen source.
Ammonium chloride is also fully soluble.

I was looking for some easy access wood chips. These look like a pretty great additive for my lions mane. It looks like a lot of chips for pretty cheap.

My local farm supply store sells bags of pre chopped straw for pet bedding. I can drive up to the local True Value and buy bales of straw for $4-5 each, but I live in a town of less than 5k people in the middle of farmland central lol.

Thanks all for SAB technique sharings. Sounds like I've been spraying mine too much. Black cat, coir in oyster buckets works well. Also, the babbies will just push the micropore out - no need to do anything.
