My mold issues are fine now that I have adopted better procedures. All my new jars and plates are clean. This was from an old jar. Sigh. I took a risk spawning it since everything else was pretty gross.

Make sure that if you are getting a negative ion generator that you get one that doesn't produce any ozone as a byproduct.
The one I have is 100% Ozone free and works pretty well for cleaning the air. Shop around for the best ones

Sweet. I think I'll buy that and make my own MEA finally. Anybody see any reason why this wouldn't work?

I had a shoebox at day 13 yesterday with some 1-2" pins going on it...
came home to it allllllll over the floor and a not-so guilty looking cat
Tried to stuff the pieces back into the box and soaked it for a while, hopefully it will stitch together or at least the pins on there will grow.
My first shoebox and first test of my B+ clone ugh

that blows. that's exactly why I keep my cat out of my shroom at all times unless I'm in there. That, and the fact that outdoor cats are filthy

oh brother, thats the worst.
I thought my kitten was bad. Never had any problems with the older cat but the kitten was always taking the polyfil out of my damn tubs and getting it everywhere. Would not notice for a while sometimes that a tub was missing poly and it'd dry out on me

There's always the poorman's negative ioniser as well - do SAB work when it's raining or just after rain.
How often do yall spray your SABs when working in them? And do you work as deep in them as possible?
Thanks!

I usually wipe it down right before with iso and then spray it once. I put a towel over it after spraying and let it hang out for a bit, with or without jars/whatever in it. After I'm done, I'll wipe the outside with the leftover iso paper towels to kill whatever might be hanging around. Can't hurt. No, don't go as deep as possible. I just try not to let my hands come outside of it at all. You should be as comfortable as possible in there. If you're covered, you're good, as long as you're moving properly and utilizing solid technique. Fighting towards the back would make me uncomfortable and I'd be performing much worse.

Just once before working in it.. Spraying again moves the air which means I have to take a break, and I don't want to be sitting there with the AC off and presumably sweaty hands in gloves that much longer so.. just the one time. I work about as far in as I can while still never being in danger of touching the back wall. Usually about 3/4 or so of the way. Though I've not really noticed any issues with using the whole space, it's just that the back is probably some percentage safer.

Not that high, about 110Β°C, and 4-6 PSI, it's the microwave themselves that do the sterilization.

I donβt spray. Got tired of droplets on the SAB or on the table making stuff slide around. Just my opinion but working on a wet towel seems counter-intuitive me. Wear a mask, put on gloves, turn off all air moving sources in the house, hand wash periodically with isopropyl. Does the job great for me

Do you bother with gloves or a face mask or spraying/wiping anything when using your flowhood?

I only use gloves. I don't spray near as much alcohol as I used to. I have taken transfers from plates without wiping them down and the next line of plates were clean. A flow hood make things soooo much simpler and faster. It really is nice being able to work at ones natural pace and not have to slow down your movements.

I had a plate colonizing in a ziplock and it looked great, I took a transfer from it and left it in the SAB for a couple days and now the new growth is super fluffed up instead of flat like it was pre transfer. what does it mean?
