What is the best way to acidify a pH 7 substrate, that I can get easily and cheap? Could vinegar work, or will it do something weird to cubensis mycelium?
I would like to test the pH level for cellulase, by cubensis. I've seen people put cubensis on card (acidic).
I assume the cake next to your name means it's your b-day. Happy birthday.
I would say vinegar. Or you could add peat to your sub as peat tend to be acidic if I remember right.

I am never smoking before I do jars I accidentally put them in the PC without foil over them they were in for an hour before I realized it. Will everything be fine? Should I switch out the polyfill? I am waiting for it to cool down so idk if the polyfill is wet or not

Good to know, I was thinking that was the case as it's a thin layer, but I've never used colourings. What colouring is that, and what is the surface growth like? It's consuming it for something.

Thanks.
Does vinegar inhibit growth in any way, I'm trying to avoid adding inhibitory acid materials. I need to lower the pH with a material that doesn't inhibit growth with [X] added.
My test is 100g of dry pH 7 substrate, I'm looking for pH 6.0-6.5.

Here is something interesting to read, the effect of temperature, humidity and O2 value.
> You can see the level of water loss is "greater" at higher temperatures. > Each increase to humidity reduced total O2 ratios (enclosed).
We could apply this to genetics, for example, cold fruiting, which will have a lower water "lost-to-air" ratio.
O2 is used by aerobes-mammals to abundantly produce energy and other essential materials. Humans produce less energy the lower the O2 value, this includes 95%+ humidity.
At 95% humidity, we will still need to drink eventually, but less often.
Mycelium loves rain, and setups that allow for drainage. They also like rain like clean misting, and dunks.

I didn't use foil on the grain jars I did a few days ago, polyfil came out dry.

Yea I noticed that when I took the jars out the polyfil was dry even though there was some water on the lids but I put foil on them and ran them again

I went with the compost idea (50% peat), the compost is pH 5.5. Using the 1.2% nitrogen recipe, I added 6g to 25g paper.

I assume vinegar will have a negative impact. Maybe try pH down for plants.

These jars were spawned to Coir in three tubs and 6 trays 4 days ago.

8 of these jars total were spawned, all looked the same. This is how two mini tubs look like

And this is how one larger tub and 6 trays look like

What's up with these cultures? I honestly don't know what is what this is first time with grain to bulk

Any folks here have success with growing sclerotia producers outside?
Been meaning to start a patch ever since I saw that thread about sclerotia being able to survive winters. I'm making it a more serious goal now so poking around here for advice/experiences/conversation.
