Indeed, I cant strictly say how they work, just that several bacteria don't like one or more of the materials. No doubt there are bacteria that would have no issue with tea extracts, or perhaps do better.
Thanks for the recipe Leftfield420, I'll take note of that next time I try it.

Again I agree, but there are cases where wild clones could be dirty, or for other reasons.

Like 90+% of problems are sterile technique.
The other 8% is you not following Tek (no one in particular)
And the last 2% is bullshit.

I did not have a scale when I made that recipe last...but now I do and thats my estimation on the measurements, so my recipe may need to be adjusted a little bit...

Not to discount your studies at all Ferather. I definitely can appreciate your experiments. Have learned alot about fungi in general from your posts.

Going to go get some grain today! It's a toss up between oats and rye so I guess it just depends on price and availability.

Score!!....I've been wanting to stock up on plastic lids for my jars... But I don't want to spend $6 for 8 lids... I'd be spending over $100 to have lids for all my jars... Eventually I will get them maybe just a couple packs at a time

Yeah 32 is more than half my jars so I’m happy with it for the price for sure. Gonna pick up some wide mouth SFD’s and cut them nickle size, I figure I can get 5-6 filters off each disc so a 6pack should cover all the lids

Thats what I'd do too.... I just like the fact I won't have to keep buyin lids and rings... Takes just as much time to prep plastic lids as it does metal, and they last way longer...so in tge long run I save time stuffing poly into metal lids

Just got done doing some transfers, put some cultures in cold storage until the transfers grow out, and ran into one of these
I had my girlfriend put some ice packs in the lunchbox I bought for storing cultures in my fridge last night along with a plate I thought was a master. She thought I ment the ones in the freezer, not the ones I just bought.
Well when I went to put some more plates in there I discovered the outer edges of agar were frozen! Luckily I had determined it was a touch bacterial still (thank god for note keeping) and I had already taken several transfers from it to clean up, one of which I made a transfer off today.
I have it sitting back out to see if it's still alive. The way this variety acts it wouldn't surprise me if it was.
