I kept getting spells of mold in my SAB and people kept saying it was my technique and that a flow hood wouldn't help me. Well that was ALL bull shit like I figured, as I had plenty of clean plates in my SAB, then after a month of clean plates I would get mold. Since going to the FH I have only seen mold on germination plates. No mold on any transfer plates over the last 6 weeks or so. I find that there are some people who have only ever worked in a SAB and then try to say a flow hood wont help. It's like WTF how do you know if you have never used a FH.

I got me one of the big 24x24x11.5 filters off ebay for $150 shipped. Rates 99.99% down to .3 micron at 1900cfm. I have had no issues, other than how deep my hood is.

Im using a standard sized sab rn an its working great, i wipe everything down right before it goes in an mist tf outa if with bleach/soap water an let it sit before i slowly put my plates in im close to 98% success after starting at 0%. The bad thing about a sab is u just gotta be slow af, takes like 30m to do 10 plates

The only time I've had mold in my sab, besides my first pf jars which was my fuck up, is on germination plates. Specifically this spore syringe of purple mystic I have, but it did just fine on my pf jars that are almost all done.
So far my projects include, 7 pf jars of purple mystics inoculated via ms, 8 brf jars with polyfil lids inoculated via agar, a fully grown out pm plate that is tomentose as fuck that I'm going to let pin, a pm plate that was inoculated with a piece of my grown out plate, a gt clone on it's 3rd transfer, and gt from ms that's on it's 2nd transfer.
My regular pf cakes are going in my sgfc, and my other cakes are getting crumbled and spawned to 50/50 coir verm at 1:2 ratio in a 31qt mini mono.

Another nice specimen. I mean look at that mycelium go! I'm going to have the best bulk grow ever! But seriously this is the one jar that contammed out of 27. This is a prime example of something that starts off innocently enough as a few specks and some white mycelium then quickly blossoms into a force to be reckoned with. So far everything looks nice in all my other jars and this was just a fluke. Maybe a rogue spore in my liquid culture or just one that managed to survive the PC. I'm thinking it came from the syringe I made from the plate.

So i got a lions mane culture syringe a few days ago and im about to put it to some petris, im just wondering what will be the best way to go about it, im assuming streaking it is a bad idea since its tissue and not spores. Should i just give it a good shake and put a drop or 2 in the centre of the plate or should i drop it on my loop first then dip that in the centre to get less moisture, or is there a prefered method that im not thinking of ,
Any help would be greatly apprenciated

Yes. Those magic gold flecks. I know. I'm actually super happy that a few jars that didn't colonize and one contaminated jar is the only problem I've had so far. Tonight is lid making and jar cleaning night. It's the most hated night where I take my horror shows outside open them dump them and drop them in a bucket of bleach. Then I strip naked in the bulkhead. Drop the clothes in the wash and shower. This is the same process I go through when I come home from urbex.
But most people freak out about contams. I actually like when I find a new contaminant. I like to watch them. Kind of like how I learned about all the poisonous mushrooms before going out and collecting the edible ones. I mean they may be scary for what we are doing but these little colonies make medicine and different kinds of delicious formented foods. And well some like mycogone just really have no use but to ruin my life.

I just tried to make the least contact with anything else. Just flamed my needle and put a few drops on making sure that enough material had settled to the bottom. I put a few drops on and tried to move the dish as much as possible so it didn't leak everywhere. You may want to transfer the growth to another plate so you can have a nice clean culture since it does just tend to grow all over the place this way. Something I toyed with the idea of for the future is to cut a tiny divot in the agar and place the drop there.

using the tip of your needle, cut a 1/2" straight line in the middle of the plate. 1 single line. do not go removing an entire wedge. one single line in the agar is all you need, then drop 1-2 drops of solution into the little valley you just cut.

Nice. Now I know how big to make my divot when I try it next time.
