Mainly just venting.
Hes reading old shit. Go ahead get into agar and shoeboxes... I would also stop sharing with him...I had to do that with a friend not that long ago. He looked up the oldest teks and wanted my opinion constantly...I got my own shit to do.
I feel you man...that was my exact position. I dont mind helping at all but I want people to do for themselves also.
Just like I bring myself to sit here and read all day others can do the same. My friend would take a tek and look for another from 8 yrs ago to complicate shit. I dont have time to break down how exactly everything Is wrong in every tek. His questions constantly made me be sure I fully understand what im trying to explain though...so there is that.

Just got done running 8 half pint brf jars with polyfil lids through my pc. Using them for agar inoculation, figured I'd get the experience in on something as cheap and easy as brf before I jump to grains.
Might crumble and mix with CVG in trays, might leave them as cakes.
I'm heading to the pet store now to see if they have coco coir, that will be the determining factor.
Hopefully my MS purple mystic jars are ready for fruiting before these jars get too far into colonization. I might need to look into shoeboxes or mini monos lol

You shoot spores to grow mushrooms and you'll feel like a wizard. You learn to use agar and you'll feel like a god. An everlasting supply of mushrooms from a single drop of spore solution is pretty rad. I love this shit.

Yeah I find it so fascinating, especially agar work. I've got a master plate of purple mystic in the fridge and a plate I transferred to that's ready to go.
All of it is tomentose and maybe I'll work on isolates eventually, but right now I'm just worried about having a clean culture library. I have a gt clone that needs intensive cleaning, and gt spores that I'm putting to agar tonight.
I see myself having too many projects going at once for me too keep up with soon lol. Gotta get a composition notebook so I can really track everything I'm doing, especially agar work.

I did my first A2A xfer the other day and i am shocked how fast the shit is growing.. and zero contam following good sab teks
Not sure if it's the BRF agar or the stuff always grows super fast after a xfer..
P.S. i would like to collect some agar for the future.. how long can you keep them in the fridge? my first cakes are puerto rican and am wondering if i can just a tiny bit of cake to agar and save some cultures for a long time?

If I remember correctly you can keep a master plate in the fridge for a year before you have to transfer to a new plate, but if you want long term storage you need to look into slants.
Now for my question, which is kind of a stupid one. When making bulk subs from coir/verm do I need gypsum or can I leave it out. I can probably have my boss order me some for pretty cheap, agricultural gypsum is hard to come by here this time of year and I don't want to use a piece of drywall, seems unhealthy IMO

My wild cube spores are germinating quick as fuck...got some visible growth after 2 days...gonna transfer it a few times and put it to grain... I'm hoping it will be a nice lil project to work on for a while...from what I've read wild varieties put out small fruits..We'll see how well it goes soon enough

Thanks! That's what I thought, but I wanted to be sure. A quick search didn't give me any answers. I'm still debating on whether I'm going to do a shoebox or mini mono, they both look like fun.

You don't need a PC for agar. I would've held out a little longer and got a bigger one IMO, but it will work for now. Idk how the head space is but unless you plan on doing pasty plates I'd recommend ordering a media bottle, they're pretty cheap.
I assume since you just have that 5qt you plan on doing a>brf, which is what I'm working on. I couldn't imagine doing grain in that small of a pc.

Other than buying pre-made plate, I’d like to know how you came to this conclusion. Every TEK I’ve seen requires you to sterilize Agar which can’t reliably be done without a PC

You can steam-sterilize agar no problem, I did it in the past, the only real con is that it takes longer to sterilize.
