Ordered 5 3 packs of eco earth for 21 and change to my door today. I forget who I bought it from, but I think that's pretty cheap.

It's easier for me because I live less than a mile walk and can pick it up while getting cat food.
All my PESA grew really small. I had to harvest top bottom and sides so my sub wouldn't fester. I believe all the larger side pins opening and sporulating triggered the others to do the same. They sure were meaty for tiny guys. One thing about this PESA is it pins like crazy. I should have flipped the sub. The clusters of bottom pins was insane.
Do you trigger a second flush the same way as the first? Want to get it rights this time.

You should post a picture. PES Amazon is supposed to be a larger strain, isn't it? Most South American mushrooms are quite large. I'm pretty sure AA+ originated in South America.
As far as second flush, you leave it in fruiting conditions, as with the first flush, but you will want to try to rehydrate the sub, if possible. Are you fruiting in a tub? If so, flipping the substrate can be a bit tricky, without breaking it, and dunking usually leads to a fucked up sub, in my experience. I have never flipped a substrate, so I don't know the benefit of that. I guess the pinning surface would have more available sites, but they usually make up for fewer pins by creating larger shrooms.
I always use a nice, thick 4 mil liner of painter's plastic in my tubs. This discourages side-pinning quite effectively, usually. I get someone to help me pull them out of the tub, and we each grab the corners of the liner, and then set it on the lid. It makes picking very easy. Then you can spray it down really good with water, and put it back. It's not the most effective way to rehydrate, but it's low hassle, doesn't leave too big of a mess, doesn't break the substrate... it works for me.

OK this is a dumb question, but as a new cultivator with no interest in going to prison (i.e. selling controlled species of mushrooms) wtf do you do with all of your harvest? I mean, I only have so many friends interested that I can give them to, and even they can only eat so many. So now I just have these big jars with like 3-4 dry ounces in each, and it keeps stacking up.
I love growing, and I love eating them, but I may have to stop for a bit just to let the demand catch up to the supply. Maybe I need to go to more shows and make new friends LOL..

If you know of some good music fests in your area that don't do hardcore searchs at the gate (my locals have started cracking down) take them there. You'll make tons of friends, especially if you're just handing out shrooms lol (might piss a couple people off too so be careful, nobody likes getting their toes stepped on). I'm sure a good percentage of people here sell them, but it's definitely a no no to talk about it.
Whatever you do with them, be careful. I don't even talk about the fact that I'm growing shrooms to anyone but my absolute closest friends and a couple other cultivators that I've met recently.
In general it's just not a good idea to talk about it, but we all know how hard it is not to. Especially the first few grows you do.

Good advice. I did tell a couple of people and already regret it. But they know I like foraging wild edibles so I could just say that I found them.

Seems like a waste but I do love the idea of growing edibles. I could even get a booth at the farmers market if I got it certified/inspected or whatever.

Mycomechanic I'm right there with you man! I agree it would have to be like a holy sacrifice to dump my dried fruits. I bought a capsule maker and vacuum sealer recently for compact long term storage. But even then it's still going to pile up on me.
I'm prob going to have to start doing a small bio assay of every harvest and dump the ones that don't make the cut as far as potency goes.
With winter coming on I'm going to take other users advice and try to grow oysters. I've never eaten an oyster mushroom! Lol. Anyway good luck with your decision. I know it's been weighing on my mind for some time now. Might just have to give them back to the earth soon.
Do people really throw their cubes away? Like, seriously?

Look at the quote in my sig next to 'Trusted Cultivater'
I, personally, give them to homeless people and the poor. I'm a philanthropic sort of person. I donate them to childrens hospitals too sometimes, but I dont really like kids, honestly. Maybe gerriatrics is a more suitable form of charity, but it doesnt turn the ladies on as much to say you support alzheimers research.
You can roast cubes on a grill and eat them without tripping. You can throw big tripping parties where dumb cunts jump out of windows and shit. Some people sell them. We dont talk about those people. They are out of tune with spirit of the mushroom. To profit from the ancient soul is to... be a cunt.. or some other shit. Ok?
Go gourmet. Its fun.

Hey bigbadwoof, that quote in your sig, I remember it from when I first joined the shroomery in this thread
That was a bad time in my life and I wish I would've left that situation sooner, but life is way better now. The mushrooms I grew then showed me how bad off I was in a very harsh manner...twice.
You said you donate them to a childrens hospital? I presume you mean edibles, or do you live somewhere that actually does research on psilocybin mushrooms?

I laughed my ass off when I saw it, all I could picture was a bunch of homeless people and kids walking around all noodle like and dazed out.
Yeah my early days on here didn't give me all that great of a rep, luckily I took a year away from all this to get my shit together. Although it's still not entirely together I'm at a point in my life where I can afford to delve into this wonderful hobby. I've been trying to pay for my dumb assery by helping noobs that are noobier than me. The only thing I'm worried about is spreading bad info, I don't want to mislead anyone. Usually I just link teks.

Nah I'm not too worried about it. So far I haven't had any problems in that regard, probably because I stopped being a dumb ass, learned how to use the search function better (using just a phone for the site blows), and I'm not bitching about being too poor to grow drugs lol. If only I could get my car fixed...bought an '07 honda civic hybrid with 150k on it and it broke down in a week. The battery module went out and it's a $900 part...never buy a hybrid.
Anywho, back on topic, here's how my 2nd flush with gt is doing so far. The back left cake isn't doing much but I've got 7 jars of purple mystics colonizing quite nicely and a master plate of them as well as a transfer that I will put to cakes in a few days...might need another sgfc, maybe I'll do trays idk yet. There is way too many options for cultivation and I eventually want to be avid in all of them. Wouldn't mind having that nice TC tag someday, but that's a ways away, gotta earn my stripes ya know?
