Well, everyone has convinced me to just switch to agar. I'm still only on my first grow but I've watched up quite a bit on it. Any tips/pointers?

Honestly agar is easy. It's not for everyone but, if you want to do bulk and grain it's probably tell best way to start a colony. Lots of vectors with grain so being able to eliminate inoculate as one is really helpful in dialing in the process.
Best advice I can give on agar is practice. It will teach you as you go. Have a satellite pop up on a plate, that tells you that you need more control of your movements. Shit like that really helps when it comes time to do G2G expansion.

Sweet! I'm sorry, a satellite pop up? What is that? I thought you were messing with me.

I came to post what Pasty said. Agar is awesome because it tells you what you're doing wrong. As far as tips, it's just practice. You develop muscle memory that helps you along the way, e.g., slow, controlled movements, no hands over open plates, etc. Oh, and expect to have bacteria show up often initially and don't let it stress you out.
A satellite in myco-context is a little bit of bacteria that shows up away from the mycelium. So you get nice clean mycelial growth, but 1" to the right, there's a little spec of something that isn't mushroom mycelium. It's normal when you're just beginning and often indicative of a technical mishap, such as putting your hand over the plate or something.

Ah gotcha. I'm definitely stressed about my grain jars but I've decided agar sounds good. I know patience is key, I am however still excited to see my first growth. I have some B+ spores in 7 qrt jars 3/4 full of popcorn, and 3 qrt jars with brown rice w verm casing, 4 of tek all being PES Hawaain. Hopefully they pull through. Thanks for the quick tips tho!

Get good enough at agar and ruthless enough at tossing suspect jars and you will rarely see trich. Hope has nothing to do with it at that point. No reason people can't see a 99% success rate. Also ditch popcorn. People may disagree with me but IMO it's shit.

Only 1 way to find out, if its a smoothie pile mix it with shredded straw or coir. Poo/straw requires pasturizing.

If they are roaming a pasture like that, chances are they are grazing off of the grass. Go get you some.

I tried putting a dark ass spore syringe to my boss's cows bale of hay last year...nothing happened, so I took a couple jars of colonized grain and noc'd up some fresh cow shit....got a few mushies to pop up...gonna continue to do that until the field is covered in spores so the cows ingest them and start shitting mushies out all over the place...

About to order some agar and some LME so I can start working with agar. Any suggestions on brands, or amounts?
