It wasn't intended to be, more of an inside joke stemming from repeated misreadings of dankingtons name, but yeah, it does read like a race joke. I figure we're all mature enough to handle that. If there's a joke besides that, it's that the harmlessness of what I said can so easily be alluded to being a race joke.
Anybody else struggling with starting a new grow? All my shit is finally dying and I haven't started anything new. The weather's about to make things better too... guess I gotta keep telling myself that. Buying new supplies might set a little spark.

Just checking, I saw it as more of an emo joke at first.
Anywhoo- I've got some plates ready for transfer but the new plates I got are melt-able-
Just need to know if I'm going to have to pour them out in an SAB or if I should just go and purchase glass/pyrex/whatever is reccomended for petris so that I can be sure that I'm being as clean as possible.

Yea had like ten bags contam, waiting for a new hood to do bag work.
In the mean while I started 10 nu muang, 6 Cambodian and 11 tamp jars from one plate each.
Got a dozen or so tamp jars 99% going into wheat bags when the hood comes in.
Got 6 plates of ape that need one more transfer I'm hoping before grain
@terp, you have sleeves of 20 dishes for pour agar you mean? You'll need to pour in the sab. There are clear videos on YouTube if you search how to pour agar.

If you have plastic plates then they came sterile and you have to pour them. If they're not sterile anymore then you need new plates.

They're in little plastic non-air sealed bags... not at all sterile. To amazon I go.

What is the current consensus on gypsum for monotubs and coffee soaks for grains?

you can use some brewed coffee for your grain soak/simmer. I'd not use gounds, as they inevitably contam without very meticulous care.
Gypsum is not proven beneficial really for subs, but seem to help keep grains from sticking to one another, so a handful added to each soak of grains seems to help. I add gypsum to the coir to try and pH buffer a bit, with a little lyme. But it's not really necessary I don't think.

Quick question. What is the absolute best food color to use for a noob for agar? I'm about to try to whip some up.
Also what's the recipe for a pack, I think 8, pasty plates? I have agave nectar, and Idaho spuds potato flakes.

Another question. For a first timer, I'm making 8 plates. How many should I inoculate? 2? I assume they never start clean. So I'll have to transfer atleast once, if not twice. So I want a few plates with nothing in them while the others grow, right?
I think I'll just do one strain to start. I'm either going to use my KSSS print, or TOC swab. Any suggestions on that?? I think I'll do the TOC swab because it's ready to go once I take the foil off...
I'm not trying to do anything crazy. I don't think I'll need a thousand agar plates. I'm trying to take this slow and steady and not overwhelm myself.
Thanks for any help.

If you have a prepped swab, I'd say to go ahead and try to swab 3-4 plates at least. You can only really use it once.
