I'd say get 500ml they are easy to remelt in the microwave after pcing.
Also get an Infrared thermometer. Make life easy I try to pour around 118°f get anywhere from 12-20 per 400ml

I'm making a container for LI tomorrow, it's a peanut butter jar. The top is PP5 plastic. I'm doing a SHIP myself with a stuff (don't know english name for it but the right stuff, a grey paste) and I will also install a syringe filter in the lid for aspirating without vacuum.
The syringe filter is 0.2 Mikron and I think I have read that water doesn't go trough it and it cant contaminate that way. Could this be true? I will be shaking the jar pretty good I suppose, anyone ever done this before? I mean shaking LI with a syringe filter installed?

a syringe filter is made to filter water and other liquids. it needs pressure though, it won't mess up the contents of your jar if that's what you are wondering

It's a glass jar.
Now that I think about it, the syringe filter will of course be sterilized before I do the shake. The jar will come out of the PC. But good to know anyway since the jar will be used for LC as well.

you don't wanna run your LC through the filter, just as an FYI

you don't ever run anything through the filter. its there just to break the vacuum. you aspirate through the SHIP.
although, im my opinion, you will get better results without using a SHIP and instead removing the lid and pouring. no physcial contact with the unsterile SHIP that way. I've never bothered to aspirate LI because I use 25+ ccs per jar, so its not terribly efficient. Its a lot easier and faster to just pour the stuff.

I'm not gonna run anything trough the filter guys. I will use LI and LC for BRF cakes later on for an experiment. My first ever attempt at grain started today. Inoculated two masters of WBS with clean wedges. Separated the floaters and all the big darker stuff in one jar and the smaller light colored grain in the other, just for fun to see how each colonize.

What kind of grain are you using?? I too was having to do this with oats until I started just bringing water to a hard boil then adding to grains for 30-45 min. I believe i got the tek from eat. Thing is I still was having to wait till next day to load them up. Theres a thread talking about how all srainers are not created equal. I was thinking that was my problem months ago but havent been able to buy new one yet. Would so love to hear specifics on how and why certain ones work better. Also like boogie said its a pita when doing lots of grains. Also some of the oats came up black af. Not burnt but looks like they were going there.

Oh no haha its only for small quick batches, id need an ungodly massive pot for that and a canoe paddle
Im using wbs. I wanna use rgs if i can find it local, millet is kinda finicky it can get wet really fast and can dry up real fast. But for larger prep its gonna be by the book.

I just switched back to WBS. The colonization looks so much healtheir than my bag of oats. Maybe i got a bad batch.

Oats was my first whole grain and I've used it successfully. I just started a bag of wheat seed and I'm liking the results so far. They plump up nice and don't leave water spots on the jar. If you know what i mean.
