Seeing a lot of varying recipes...
What's the basic recipe using potato flakes? I'm seeing something about yeast... I have bread yeast. Don't think I wanna go that route if I don't have to.

They come sterilized. They melt if you sterilize them yourself. They're gamma sterilized when made.

Moab, did you read PastyWhyte's easy Agar tek yet? It answers most of your questions. I can't say for sure on the agave, but I would use it.

Pastys Tek plus the videos that use pasty plates, I really think this weekend I'm going to make my first ever agar! So excited. About to pick the last of my MS to WBS, then trashing it all and starting over. I have spore syringes, and a few prints. I have one sterile medical swab, and one Texas Orange Cap swab.
Print to agar is "easier" maybe not easier, but more preferred than syringe correct? Rub a little print on my swab, swipe the plates in a z pattern, then wait. Right?
Man I'm excited.

Damn I wish more actives grew in this state. Looking at all of the actives on the ID forum just makes me want to clone and domesticate everything...

Do you have a manual focus on your camera? Or just using a phone....
I can't see shit really, but it looks like you sprinkled spores all over your agar.
With so many projects going at the same time, you'll soon have more than you can keep up with, especially being new. I mean, I'm pretty new to agar too and one variety is keeping me busy. I do 5-10 dishes at a time though, depending on how many good looking cultures I decide to transfer.
Just find a spot that's not completely surrounded by contams and take a tiny piece of it. Wash, rinse, repeat until you're good.

Yea I'd think so, but would I do a pour of the sterilized Agar in an SAB? Is there not another way besides getting different dishes? I'm fine if there isn't I just want to make sure I'm being sterile to the best of my monetary ability.
Also yay, my man and I finally got a computer. No more tiny phone typing.

Well, to be honest and to come clean, I initially bought a kit from a vendor. Live and learn. My cakes stalled out. After reading and asking questions here I adjusted my FC with what I had. I kept the air pump and actually added one. I have 4 inches of perlite. My cakes were producing pins then stalling. I was misting and fanning a couple times a day but things were still moving slow. I have 4 cakes of PE and 2 of Huaulta. The Huaulta are pinning faster, the PE are trying my patients the little fuckers. I decided to drill a bunch of holes in the lid of the FC. Today the Huaulta have exploded with pins and fat little mushies. I only miste the perlite and sides of FC, not cakes directly.I still fan just to help evap. Hoping to have some Huaulta in a few days. Maybe I'll have PE by New Years. Still am trying to post pics. Happy trails!

Mist them directly, and make a proper SGFC.

So after I drilled those holes in my PC lid My RH is only 87%. I misted the FC and poured in 20oz purified water. Those Huaulta are bommin.

I have a manure and straw based substrate ready for my colonized grain. Should I add some hydrated lime? I don't have a PH tester.

Where are you getting your humidity reading from? If it's from a hygrometer inside your FC, it's not telling you anything. The only RH of concern is that immediately surrounding your mushrooms/cakes/tray. Keep your substrate/casing/cakes moist and glistening, that will take care of all your humidity requirements. Throw the hygrometer away.
