Been there and done it as well, lol. Yea PERLITE is even worse. I had a shroom grow around a couple pieces once, and well found out when I was eating them. Hearing that funky crunch is like nails on a chalk board. BUT HEY at least your shit shimmers from the verm, good old glittery shit.

Shit isn't so black and white. It's not just water or nutrition, it's aeration, surface area, water retention(% by wt) nutrition genetics etc
Mushrooms are 90% water. Their is not really much nutrition that needs to be involved. Bodhi recently posted talking about strains given low amounts of nutrients can be more resilient, vigorous, and healthy. Where an over nutritious substrate would make it lag in comparison. I don't know the truth to this objectively but I can see that rationally and through experience.
Being said, water capacity seems to be the major focus. When doing gourmets and medicinal we use such ridiculously low spawn ratios. We supplement the substrate to aid with this. Stretch the spawn even farther. But higher ratios would mean less need of supplementation.
For cubes we use ridiculously high spawn ratios. (10-20% spawn for gourmet 33-50% spawn for cubes)
Locn9ne showed with his cube grow of ridiculously low spawn ratios just how important water is. Their is nutrition in coir. But not much; as pasty said, side by side, coir and verm do almost identical. This is because their water content not their nutritional content.

Maybe but not much imo. mushrooms are 90% water.. Ill say it until I'm dead.

Pasty has been paying with lower spawn ratios to see if he could keep yield up with less spawn.

So I've got some pins on an MS agar plate I've grown out and I'm getting ready to transfer them this weekend. My question is does this method still follow the dont clone a clone methodology? As in could future fruits from these transfers be cloned or would it be better to take swabs. Thanks in advance

You could clone it. Their will still be a shit ton of strains.

If that's the case why do people seem to worry about genetic drifting so much.

Superstition mainly. People spit shit as fact they don't know and fear things they've never dealt with. Talk with Allen Rockefeller about it. he is a amateur geneticist, mycologist and a mod/TI on here.
If it was a clone of a clone I'd say no but if an MS plate pins, the pin is still from MS. It has uncountable strains. This doesn't change just because it pins.

It broke up a lot easier then oats, it's wheat, only a few shakes and bangs against my hand. Besides a few clumps I had to really shake, it wasn't Much effort. I hope that's a good sign...
