Fungus Mountain said: If you live in region that will naturally support fungi growth, you'll have much better luck introducing specific strains to your environment vs' introducing a growing media to attract them. What type of mushroom(s) are you trying to grow? You could use plugs, slurry or just amend a small bed/garden. Lots of options to explore, but it depends on what you're trying to grow.
If I could pick and choose I'd love to grow Panaeolus cyanescens or psilocybe azurescens. I'd be happy with any and all active mushrooms though as well as inactive edibles like morels or something. I've read that cow manure is excellent for growing the panaeolus. Logs can be inoculated and used to grow outdoors as well, I'm told. Still trying to figure out what route to take though. Is growing outdoors harder than indoors? I don't have a lot of experience. I've done the cakes a few times but that's it. Planning to try a monotub in the near future. Should I get more experience there before trying to grow outside?
Here's a couple more photos of what grows around here. I don't think they are anything special but I'd still be interested to know what they are if someone can identify them.

I had to prune my large ginkgo trees and have a few, decent logs for plug spawn. It's one of the oldest trees in the world, I think, so there's got to be some awesome mushroom that would thrive on it. Any suggestions?

I'll be picking some big sloppy penis in 2 weeks. I just wanted to get in on this thread. But yeah. Big, sloppy, penis. The clone is labeled PE - "Big 2". You should all know that.

Sure, you can have it, if you like
Btw, your sig made me have to go watch 'safety not guaranteed' while prepping my casing... Well played, madame sir.

Ok, madame. Do yourself a favor and go watch that movie on putlocker while prepping a casing mix, and wondering whether or not you're a pirate, or a particularly frugal consumer... either way, not knowing makes it utterly exhilarating.
And that's what I live for.

Well, I think these might be too wet But, there isn't any pooled water. Maybe they will work?
edit: I guess a picture would help!
