Anyone got a link to a good, reasonably priced flowhood tek? is it worth going for 24x24 or is 18x24 sufficient? probably better to go big and never have to worry about it again.

Put a little water in it and pop it in the microwave for a minute or so. If it melts it's no good. If it stands up to the boiling water it's fine

sometimes there are numbers on the bottom. that indicates what type of plastic it is. that may help you determine what it is.

Anybody have any issues with the American Electric International impulse sealer??
I can't get mine to seal without sticking to the spawn bag and tearing it (sometimes)...Very frustrating with so much at stake.

Sealers suck. Tyvek wrist sleeves, and zip ties are the way to go.

I use an off-brand made in china sealer. (I'd assume they work similarly though.)
Try turning the temp down just a little, and keep holding down for a few seconds after it turns off.
Sometimes there will be small gaps that dodn't seal. I like to do two presses on one side, then flip the bag and do a third.
And always give the bag a squeeze while still in front of the hood to be sure there are no leaks.
Sacrifice an empty bag to practice on, so there's nothing at stake.

Ham..I have the wrist sleeves, but the Unicorn bags have the filter patch up high so I don't think I can twist them up to seal..Which is a bummer...
FF..Yeah...Practice and hopefully this thing will work without tearing...It has a heating/cooling cycle and a magnet...All made in China but...Every setting sucks so far...
Ham...Do you think 4 hours in the sterilizer at 20-22psi weakens the bags too much?

Not at all. Spawn bags are very resialnt and hold their integrity. I do 4 hours at those psi for the sterilization of bulk substrate materials that have been highly enriched with supplemtation and additives. Show me pic of your bags. I have never heard of the filter patches being placed too high up on the bag that it thwarts closing them like a loaf of bread.

ok..Thanks H..I'll post a photo in a little bit...I have to quickly harvest and then do that..
I like the zip tie idea...Simple and works every time I bet. I thought about folding the end over and then sealing it to create a better barrier in case of a nonperfect seal...Fuckin bullshit though...
