So I finally have some agar plates that I will be transferring over to a new plate, since the mycellium I used came with some bacteria in it. Fortunately I have very clean growth from what I can see that is far away and stronger than the minor bacterial growth.
From my two (partially) good plates, I will be transferring onto 4 new plates.
Now my question is, can i use a few more of the good sectors to make some jars, or is that not a good idea since other bacterial growth is present on the same plate?
To make this question even more absurd and likely to get me chewed out, its because I have 4 cups of rye berries that some pantry moths got into, i cleaned them out and decided maybe I could just try to get 4 quarts of spawn for further transfers if im lucky, since the rest of the agar was going to get tossed anyhow

hey!
i wanna hear about mortys wife not your silly problems :p
and you can use the clean chunks to knock up jars.. thats kind of the point. but i would let the 'sector' grow out so i kno its clean before i toss in a jar.
the moth thing is kinda gross. id be too pysched out to eat anything that might grow from them.

Wish I read this lastnight, before I ended up with rye spawn all over the room. Idk how someone can open a mason jar so hastily. Its not a race damnit!

Ok I've got a question:
Is there any way to keep the white residue from sticking to everything in my pc? I'm pretty sure the white residue is from the aluminum but that's as far my knowledge goes.

It's from hard water. Add vinegar to the water, supposedly it helps stop the residue from precipitating.

I am getting ready to spawn a jar of grain (B+) to bulk. I have a SGFC but have not drilled holes in the bottom. It is taped 4 inches. 1) Do I need to drill holes in the bottom of SGFC? 2) Should I use a liner? And 3) Does it need to go in a bag during colonization?

I think I hate PE. It has fooled me again. Cakes started to pin. The pins growing very slow. It colonized slow. Good news is my B+ grain Jars hvae colonized and they were fast. Looking forward to seeing how they colonize and fruit in a SGFC.

It sounds like you're confusing a sgfc with a mono tub, coupled with some old info.
1)yes 2)for a sgfc, no. For a mono tub or a tray or anything bulk really, yes. 3)no

If you are doing cakes, you want an SGFC. It should look like this except for 4 to 5 inches of damp perlite in the bottom. NO TAPE. And 1/4" holes 2" apart in a square grid on all 6 sides.
