the shake does two things. speeds up colonization and acts as a check for contamination. in a clean jar of spawn, shaking it does little to no harm, so dont worry about harming good spawn by shaking it. dirty spawn will show slower recovery, or no recovery at all some times.
shake it if you need to. like if you didnt get even dispersal on your first shake. it happens.

Shaking also redistributes moisture through out the grains.

I have a few guinea pigs for the project. Was thinking about starting with 1.5 to 1.7 a chocolate? or just go with 1G dried per each?

Deeper sub is usually. Less fruits, but larger and not as dense.
Skinnier sub, say 2. 5inch, will give greater coverage, a bit smaller fruits, and. More density.
At least from what I've been trying. I was all about the 4.5in sub, but now, 2.5 and golden. Large fruits ate neat, but I want evenness and coverage.
At least for photos sake.
But
Shit if I get any shrooms, I'm still happy as a pig in slop!
