So local tree cutting company was hired by the town and has been going around trimming trees from around power lines. Well I asked one of the guys what they do with the chips and his response was, why do you want some. Well I gave my name and number and later this next week should be bringing me a truck full of chips. These are from fresh cut recently alive trees.
Now I know from horticulture NOT to put this stuff straight to my flower beds as the cells that are still alive in the wood will suck nitrogen out of the ground, robbing it from my plants. I would have to wait 4+ weeks for the cells to die off to use in my flower bed. This has brought me here to ask about using it for oysters now, and possibly wood loving psilocybes in the future. I can get more of them. Turns out lots of tree companies will give them away free. Can freshly chipped wood be used now for either of these, or does it need to sit for like a year and start to break down?

I've been wondering why none of my shit will grow outside at home. Don't know what the RH of north Florida is, but where I live in the mountains, apparently, in comparison to here, it's so damn dry. The air here is so wet and sticky. There's so many mushrooms outside. Don't know where to begin. I KNOW I saw some huge white oysters on a large log earlier. Wish I had picked them.

King stropharia and elm oysters do really well in woodchip beds. You're supposed to wait a couple weeks after theyve been chipped but not much longer than a month or two unless you can get them bone dry. Make the piles about 1-2ft deep so you dont have to add chips every year, I've made beds about 6in deep and they flush out hard for a year but then use up all the wood.
You can try pasteurizing some of it later on and use it for woodlovers but personally I'd go for fresh chips to avoid needing to pasteurize. I have seen a thread about partially composting chips for ovoids but I have no experience with that.

I had hoped to use the wood chips in bags. I was mentioning the beds as I know I can not use them fresh as they damage plants. I didn't know if they would cause issues/harm for trying to fruit oysters off of them.

You will need sawdust or coir or something to fill in the gaps to use them in bags. I would also recommend adding some rice or wheat bran to kick it up a notch if but then you gotta sterilize.
If you only top dress and dont till it in then woodchip mulch is great, its only when there is contact with large amounts of surface area of soil and carbon rich material that nitrogen lockout occurs, and it can be counteracted by adding the right amount of nitrogen rich material.
king stropharia and elm oyster have actually been proven to boost yeilds when co cropped with corn and some other common vegetables.

Ok first flush looked like this

Second flush got some big pins then started to blue/abort (i think). So I picked them, dunked for couple hours, drained, and put back to fruiting
Now it looks like the third flush is doing the same thing. Is it just done or what

because they have to pay $ to take it to the dump. if they can give it away for free, it saves them money. what you did is actually a pretty common practice for frugal landscapers.

You are suggesting I take 4 cuts to 4 master jars and extrapolate from there?
Not tiger drop the entire mono into 1?
