Lol that's basically the same tent I use to fruit 5gal oyster buckets in...
WAY too big for bare cakes.

Get those babies in a SGFC.

The fan will dry the shit out of them by the way.

Well perfect then! I hope you didnt get that tent for this LOL That wa a waste if you did. Get that tent out of there. Definitely dont use the fan. Build a proper SGFC and put that chamber in the very center of the room. I'm able to do this now and the results are good  Why didnt you use jars? So far it seems like all this work was is going to be counter productive and a waste of money compared too the prefered and proper equipment used in a PF tek. Sorry mate

I actually bought this tent for oystermushrooms to. So thats not the problem;)  and i already had a first flush.. but maybe sgfc is the way to go. But i wanted to try it in this way.. the fan and humidifier are on timers. I read that short fruits are because of to mutch humidity, and the cakes did not feel dry after the flush. I actually  wanted to know if the White spots are bacteria  contamination??

1.2 KG is BS. Thats 1200 grams. Off those dry cakes? First flush? Suffocated from fresh air? No.

Hey guys. So, my first monotub ended its first flush, the amount of sub was much more compared to spawn and the "cake" created by full colonization of the tub was dry and producing aborts- I drenched it and let it be and now much larger mushrooms than any of my other tubs are now being produced. The mushrooms are larger, however there are much less pins.

My question is, do second and so on flushes produce larger fruits but less amount?

My other tubs fully colonized, have given their full flushes and are now colonizing with another full set of tiny pins.  Would it be safe to assume these will be the same? Larger but in less abundance?

Will wait and see

Usually bigger fruits and since you didnt get a good first flush the second should be a bit better it just depends on your conditions in the tub

if you are working with MS (not an isolate) there arent really a lot of safe assumptions you can make

in optimal conditions, someone like azure does "one and done," where they get so much out of the first flush that there is not enough left over in the substrate to justify waiting for a second flush.

in my experience, my second and third flushes yields are sometimes similar to the first, usually a bit less, and rarely more than the first

it really depends on how efficiently the colony is able to turn nutrients into fruits (which depends on MANY factors, environmental and genetic). If for whatever reason the first flush is weak, then the later flushes have more potential to be bigger since there are still nutrients left to build more (and bigger) shrooms

that said, all of the largest fruits ive ever harvested were from later flushes with very few, very large fruits. i commonly see a tubs largest fruits in later flushes.

i think this has something to do with the fact that there are fewer fruits, so more nutrients can be networked into growing those huge. also could be a survival mechanism, since the colony has no guarantee that it will survive until its next fruiting cycle, and larger mushrooms produce more spores. as the substrate's ph rises and becomes depleted of the building blocks for fruits, the chances of it fruiting again decrease, so it makes sense that it would make a last-ditch effort to get the most reproductive opportunity it can out of the fruits it manages to put out

what is very strange is the way this happens even in horrible conditions. oddly, neglect often leads to small numbers of huge fruts. in my projects i often wonder "would these mushrooms have been bigger/smaller if i had been more/less efficient in providing water?", but these neglected behemoths really shake that up. maybe we are witnessing a mycellium in the depths of desperation

depends how much agar you need. are you just making MEA?

i usually make it in 500ml batches: 10g agar, 7g light malt extract, bit of food coloring powder

i would reduce the amount of agar used before adding more water, unless you need more agar
