Just make sure it is PC'd properly and anything living will die.

LOL I have been considering mixing up a bunch of agar and "canning" it in some of my pint jars, in PC. I get tired of mixing up agar. I want to do like a gallon at once.

I use premix agar.  One less thing to deal with and its not too bad price wise. Practically everything in this hobby is free now so I don't mind spending money on convenience.
I never have agar left over either, I am usually stretching out the last several plates or just making it.  Depends on what plates I'm using as well.  Yesterday I poured 25 4 section dishes and 10 60 mm dishes with 500 ml of agar solution.  Not too shabby...

Hey boys, looking for the general consensus on this. So I have 4 APE plates that got forgotten in the rat race of life. 3 look straight up clean, one looks really good. 4th has some concern areas so it will be transfers. Problem is they were left long enough that the mycelium got thick and kind of matted looking. Perhaps this happens from bacteria I can not now see. So 2 part question. Can it get really thick on a plate when left for like 3 weeks, without contamination being the cause? 2nd would id be ok, if that's normal, to tiger drop that bitch to some grains?

Once the plate fully colonizes it looks really thick.  If I have an old plate like that I transfer anyway to start fresh.  Try to stay on top of your shit though, youll only regret the wasted time.

This is very true. I got the 4 plates chilling in the SAB to do some transfers. I made the mistake of getting board and starting way to many cultures. So I tossed a bunch of them that I didn't like.

My sleeves of dishes came in a 25 pack which is way too tall for my SAB. It's a fucking PAIN dealing with and I don't want to run the risk of losing more plates when unsleeving them. What SAB's do y'all have that are taller? The only one I've seen on here is like $24 and can't be bought in stores. I want one tonight so just seeing if there's some good Sterilite's or something I can buy in person tonight.

Also considering putting together 2 66 quarts if possible.

I wonder how a dub sab would work out.
Make your arm holes, Silicone the two together, and end up with a big sab. The down side would be having to put and take everything out of the arm holes, but i don't see why it wouldn't work.

I scored this one at Walmart for like $12. It is 18 inch tall and I think is 30gal. Lid and tub are clear with blue latches.

I feel like there could be a way to put styrofoam or something in between for a tight seal, but not needing to glue it so you can remove them.

TMH,

That looks great. I'll probably try and go get that tonight.

Possibly weather stripping with the self adhesive back, just throwing ideas out there

I have not tried like g2g in it yet, but 18 inches is a fair amount of room. I found it at a Wal-Mart in a bigger town. Hell they got 3 Wal-Marts.

I wonder about my SAB sometimes. The bottom (top) isn't level, it's strangely curved for some reason. I have to put a towel between the lid and box, and latch it shut. I'm just not sure about it.

My last two sab sessions I put a clean towel down and put the sab top side down, like I've seen others do.
Lol I don't know why I didn't do that earlier, working on a bowed bottom was pretty dumb. My plates would congeal a little uneven, when my master jar hit the lid I'm sure some air got sucked in. Just was a bit of a pain. In thinking of hitting up Canadian tire or Walmart soon too.

I had to go bigger as my big 35ml LC syringes were a bitch to use in my old SAB.

Fruit flies are making me rage. Have one large tub that's got em bad. Have two fruit fly traps on the tub, not a single one in them. Open the lid, 5 or 10 fly out and I try to smack them. May try apple cider vinegar and dish soap.

I've heard they'll ruin a tub. Anyone confirm? I feel like it's certain death. Don't see them in my trays. I might could micropore the lid but that's a real pain in the ass. That's where they're getting in though. House is clean. No fruit around. Not sure what the deal is.

Like fungus gnats?

Get them the fuck out of your house now.

They will infest everything.
