Mostly misting the walls, i do some gentle surface misting before fruits and at start of pinning, but not wheb the fruits are large. But yes dropping water from the lid is a possibility.

had two unsuccessful brf cake grows but got a 23q presto and innocd some agar with spore syringe yesterday. south american, golden teach, brazil, treasure coast. One of the sponsors threw in an extra syringe!
ditching the sgfc, my question is, as first time bulk attempt should I do mono tub with holes/poly or go straight for the unmodified tubs? Let me know what yall think. Thanks!

I should probably make a tek/growling to really demonstrate this but for now I'm just on my phone. The last year of cultivation had been hit and miss with spawn. I struggled for a long time with proper grain prep and bacteria has been an issue.
Now everything has been solved by adding one additional ingredient: Rye Grass Seed. I add 1 pound RGS to 4 pounds Rye grain and I have had flawless spawn ever since. I prep the 4 pounds Rye as usual with a boil and stain. Once dry I add the pound of dry rgs and load and PC.
I inoculate with clean LC as I always have.
Been making perfect grain masters and grain bags this way. My grain bags finish up in a week.
10/10 I would recommend this to anyone struggling with bacterial spawn.

thanks, not feeling so confident with my steril tek on my agar yesterday so maybe gonna just start with a shoebox or two for each variety I have. I have a bunch of shoeboxe totes around anyway.
while I was doing my agar annoc I just had this thought like "man, anything tiny little thing could float in here and fuck this up, how is it even possible?" But I guess yall all do it and eventually I will get it lol.

If I recall correctly, someone said the other day a tightly packed substrate really helps get tighter surface conditions, less side pins. It sounds legit.
Can someone chime in? I never "pack it down" I just dump it in and pretty much level it out. It makes sense that it would shrink less if it's pressed hard, correct?

I've never tested it but I've always thought that packing down the substrate would choke out the mycelium's ability to breath, and cause greater bacterial growth and slowed metabolism/growth of the mycelium/mushrooms.

I've only packed once with 2 trays. The only difference I noticed was slower pinning with the same clone I normally ran.
Only 1 time though. 2 trays, hanoi and APE. Both reacted the same. Limited experience.
