So, I need to take a couple clones in a bit. I have read it is better to tear the fruit open as cutting will push bacteria from the outside into the sample. Is this correct? Also I am assuming the answer is no, but is there any benefit to wiping the outside of the fruit with alcohol? Any last min tips at all for better success? I have only done a couple and neglected them months ago.

Tear the fruit in half long ways
Take from the base or near the cap, but try not to get spores on the sample
Do not wipe with alcohol

I've duct taped my holes and filled my tub in the bath. You get some drippity drops leaking, but it holds pretty good if you get the tape on smooth.

I used to get 10 quart jars into my old presto 23's by placing 7 jars standing up on the bottom, and three jars laying on their sides on top of the 7 standing jars.

SO I need to consult you guys here. It just popped into my head that the PH of my house water is high, above 8. When I had some plants, I had a digital PH meter and was getting 8.6-8.7 and had to adjust with vinegar for my plants. It locked out a lot of the micro nutrients and would fuck up the new growth. Before I had a digital I could tell it was high as it was off the chart on an aquarium PH test kit. Should I be concerned about a PH this high from the water I am using for my well, everything. I use gypsum in my mixes but I don't know if it would buffer it enough.

I e been using gallon spring water. My well water has a bunch of floaties and bullshit just doesn't take too great....
Could be a potential vector man. Try bottled spring water. It's a huge part of the ingredients. Whether worth it or not, I'll spend the dollar for a gallon for every tub just to be absolute SURE it isn't my water causing the issues.

I'm not sure that's how the gypsum works in the way of buffering. I think that gypsum holds the already existing PH, and sustains it there, so it doesn't buffer in the traditional sense of bringing the PH to neutral, and sustaining there. Pretty sure that's why it's used in the 50/50+ casing mix, to aid in the sustainability of the PH risen by the lime, but don't quote me on that.
If your asking about misting using your well water with an exceptionally high PH, you will be fine. The mushroom culture prefers alkaline water as opposed to acidic.
Heat applied to water neutralizes the PH of the water, so you have not to worry about when it comes to the PH of the water of any material used as a substrate that gets pasteurized, or sterilized.

Thanks Ham! I didn't know the heat neutralized it out to a 7.

If you're fruiting glowing oyster mushrooms (panellus stipticus) off of pasteurized conifer the more acidic the substrate is, the more the fruits will glow though.

It doesnt neutralize the pH. Heating a substance increases the hydronium ion concentration which lowers the pH regardless of whether or not the pH is higher or lower than 7 prior to heating.
So if it was 7 before, it will be lower than 7 after heating thus acidic.
