Damn so the box is getting that much FAE from just keeping the lid unlatched? Great to hear that things are somewhat normal thanks for the help buddy. So does each knot turn into a single mushroom? If that's the case I'm happy af.

10 days passed from adding the agar to the grains. 4 days passed from the shake and there is no visible growth in this jar after the shake. Before the shake it was the fastest colonizing jar from 6 in total. Now the rest of the jars are 85-95% colonized. And this one has no signs of mycelium growth. Why is that ?
P.S. - all the jars were prepped together. And all of them were prepped at least 10 days prior to inoculation.

And the other jar. Pretty much all of the rest looks like this.

Toss stalled jar contents. Is very likely bacteria that isn't showing.
I bet when you shake it, it's clumpy, right?
When you open it will smell sickly sweet.

It could be that your substrate was underhydrated at spawn, so it dried out quicker with "proper" FAE. Just a possibility. And just so you don't get your hopes up too high, not every knot turns into a full fruit, some abort or whatever. Many/most will though

I found some Craterellus cornucopioides (black trumpet/horn of plenty) in the woods. Will they grow on agar to grain, or are they symbiotic with something in the forest?
Looks like they are mycorrhizal⦠is it possible to clone on agar and seed them under trees?

Seems like advanced cultivation.
Their relationships to plants make it much less cut and dry than the primary decomposers most of us grow

Bags question:
Has anyone else noticed that colonizing grain spawn bags can have excessive condensation if placed in a breezy spot, or placed too close, or have their temperature change much. Too much condensation has made a few kernels look wet and un-colonized. A bit of care, and the bags look much better... unsure if that might lead to lower contam rates in the fruiting stage.

Has anyone explored using a Rinse-aid product like Jet dry to assist drying grains before loading into bags or jars?

I'm not sure, but I'd search through Josexs posts to see if he ran any kind of test

I'm pretty sure they're toxic. I wouldn't dump them in my grains, but hey, whatever. It's not like these mushrooms ain't poison anyway, right?

They got a government rating of A or B on household danger. They are used for kitchen implements... made of citric acid and alcohol mostly. I'm gunna give it a try. No known toxic traits.

I think the citric acid may throw off the pH balance of the grains and might make colonisation more difficult? I am not sure.

The thermal mass of the grain is the best mechanism via steam, or you could level up to a grain that doesn't require drying?

I've been having a ton of success cold soaking WBS, and wet loading. But when I test a few bags with fan drying the grains before loading, the colonization is aesthetically perfect. (a few wet kernels on the wet load) So I've been blowing air through the bucket of wet WBS, and that helps... so I'm wondering if a bit of surface tension removal might make the last bit of water blow off.
Side note, I despise drying grains.
