Do you think it's reasonable to charge more for particular strains of Cubensis? If so, why?

If something is more rare or difficult to obtain, I would say it safe to assume that carries a premium. Ie. A spore swab from a stabilized super potent uncommon variety is probably more desirable than something found growing in the dirt on a farm. But the mycologist would need to know how explain the difference in material to a hobbyist to justify that premium for their research supplies.. Hypothetically

Hi, people! Long time no see...
I'm looking for some feedback on this jar. It took forever to colonize, like 2 full months, but it's winter here so that could be to blame...

It's an agar inoculation that came from what looked like a clean culture. They were shaken 3 times without showing any visible signs of contamination, but now this jar is sitting like this and won't finish colonizing.
I'm thinking of spawning both jars (the other one has finished colonizing) with a 2:1 ratio (I usually do 4:1, but if there is a contam, it may be a bit too much).
What do you folks think? Should I risk it and spawn them?

The only risk is throwing out some coir if they contaminate I'd spawn em, maybe pull the uncolonized grain out so it doesn't germinate any mold.
They were probably on the dry side. What are the temps?

I've been doing no prep millet with great success so far.
For those who have done this, have you noticed smaller yields compared to other grains? There was some mentions in that thread, but I'd like to hear from you.

Yeah, that's a great idea! I'll give them till the end of the week (just in case it decides to finally colonize and give them a spawn.

That's precisely what I suspect. It's around 10-15ΒΊC so it should be fine.
I have switched to a better oat tek so I shouldn't have to deal with dry wheat again in the future

Nah. Thereβs so many extra nutrients in grains that the potential inaccessibility of a few calories due to prep method wouldnβt make any difference. Besides that I think itβs just a myth. Iβve been running a Kodama clone for about a year now, and prep method has had zero impact on yield across the board for millet and WBS.

I'm in the process if trying to recover some cultures that have been sitting for a year. The agar transfers are all coming along great. But I found some nice looking, dried out, grains on the bottom of a jar I was about to wash. Two were of the cultures I was trying to revive. So I decided to throw a couple grains on agar to see if they'd grow. They had been sitting in the bottom of the jar, lid on, since I spawned it a year ago. They started growing water bubbles a couple days ago, sucking moisture from the agar I assume. Today they are all bristling with fresh white mycelium. However, in one of the sets, the agar under it is beginning to discolor. Is this a sign of bacteria or other contaminant or is it normal?

Here are the agar transfers for anyone interested. They're all starting to take off!

While I am not a TC nor as talented as some hear, I've been around these forums for over a decade. Teks change, advice changes, and so does the general consensus.
Growers here have creating new varieties with stable genetics, and it seems overall that people are running more exotic strains.
Is a cube is just a cube still considered to be true (besides PEs)? Or have we seen enough user bred strains to be more reliably plentiful and potent?

Imo a cube is a cube will always apply because the difference in how you treat them is miniscule at best
