I'm prepping the seed with lime, but I'm concerned with contaminates within the agricultural grade lime... compared to the culinary.

Any particular reason you’re using lime for grain prep?

Its a long story~ but I'm having very good success cold soaking WBS. I was testing all sorts of other methods (other than cooking) and ran into fermentation problems. Nixtamalization is an interesting thing, so I did some testing... it removes a layer of the seed shell, and somehow allows 4% more water uptake. That 4% (35% to 39% water) more than halves the colonization time. Lime-less cold soaked WBS is just too dry. But warm water ferments.
No cooking, Loaded wet. Its a dreamy method, for me.
Anyhoo, I'm tired of buying a loads of little bags of grandmas pickling lime. Just wondered if anyone knew the grades.

I'm not sure how it would contaminate anything if it's going to be pc'd

Agricultural lime is often used for cold pasteurization of straw for commercial edible species. Should be gtg

Just make sure it's hydrated lime, not the other stuff with high magnesium.
Adding lime sounds like an excellent idea, I have tons of it sitting around. It never occurred to me to use in conjunction with soaking millet, thanks for the tip.

Drilling 8 new pasty tubs today and had a dumbass epiphany
Rather than measure and mark each tub I just need to mark one and then stack it in the next and copy the holes 1.5" down. Super simple but probably saved me a good 30 minutes at least

Wait you guys are using uncooked wbs?
I’ve heard of using lime to pasteurize straw but never heard anything about doing that with grain.

You still pc the grain if I'm not mistaken. The lime is to prep the wbs prior to pc. Or did I misunderstand and it's actually wbs without a pc?

Yeah I always thought cold soak as far as wbs just meant it sits in a bucket overnight before getting sterilized, but then lime is used for cold soak pasteurization so now idk
I assume it would be way more common in Europe where it’s tough to get cookers if you could just soak with lime.

Thanks for all the advice!

I prepared wheat by boiling it, according to this tek. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26326713#26326713
I think it went well. Drying it was really annoying though; I had to spread it all over the place, and it dries much slower once it's cold. Then I put the lids on upside-down and pressure cooked it at 15PSI for two hours. The kitchen smelled like hot grain afterwards. Not great, to be honest.
Can I keep the prepared grain jars on my shelf until I'm ready to use them? How long do they last? Should I put them in the fridge?

You can just no prep 4lb bags 1178g wbs :634g water. Pc 3 hrs. Comes out a bit dirty but is never an issue.
Same for quarts, 294.5 Wbs and 158.5 water

If you've hard boiled wheat like the tek you don't need to dry it like that. You can dry it in a large colander or large bucket with holes drilled.
I hard boil for 30 minutes and pour into a 20L bucket to drain and cool. Once it's cool enough to work with I fill jars, zero drying time as such.

I thought the same. 60 moldy tubs later i understood why you prep grain 😂 No prep is not reliable when doing bulk ime

My condolences- 60 full size monos?!
Pennington classic Roughly 17 psi, 20 mins vent. Of course there is the Occasional trich on a tub or 2 but really quite uncommon and I would usually blame that on inconsistent sterile tech (Hand infront if the laminar flow) or unclean culture/bad lc
