Someone had a quote in their signature something like, 'If you see someone growing tubs full of mushrooms, ask them how they did it. Whether TC or not'. I'm sure I miss quoted and wish I could give credit. Over the decades of our hobby, there have been many 'best' teks. Is PF tek still the best starting point for noobs? Cheap, easy, pretty reliable. I'm just a believer in, find what works for you in your environment.
When I first came back to the hobby, Faht proved himself not only to be a great grower but incredibly kind, generous and awesome mentor. That said, there was no way I could copy his style exactly. If he was not Faht, I'd imagine his style of growing might receive push back, even though, his tubs speak for themselves!
I should put together a post showing all the wrong things I do, it'd be fun! Im working on my SUS Cultivator badge and am thankful I have much to learn and even share with others. Im lucky, I still have fun doing agar and get excited watching mushrooms grow!

Maybe? I say in my sigline link article "NEW? Start Here" this:
-Take advice on here only from people who have posted pix of their own grows and who grow fat tubs of shrooms like you want to grow.
and this:
Don't take your grow instructions from old books, even if they're by "psychedelic pioneers." Take your teks from Trusted Cultivators and other kick-ass growers on Shroomery.org.

Yep, that's the one and I butchered it so badly, sorry! Now I can give you credit for (more) sound advice!

Shoebox hydration question
Hi everyone
First time doing shoeboxes.
I harvested the second flush, I guess it's a flush, a harvestable amount of fruit. The veils were breaking so I harvested.
Last flush was 10 days ago. I watered based on instructions somewhere in the shoebox thread from Mushboy. Bottom-watered with 3/4 cup water. Left for 24 h and poured off the excess water.
After I harvested today the second flush I was taking off a couple of side pins that formed and felt the bottom of the substrate with my fingers. It seems fairly saturated. More than field capacity.
Did I over do it with 24 h? My instinct is not to bottom water after this flush again. Should I leave it alone, see if a 3rd flush comes and water after that?
This is how it looked today before harvesting:

I used to flip my shoebox subs if I was trying to squeeze a third flush out of em. Usually don't take em that far unless I'm planning on packing up the lab

May I ask what do you usually do after the second flush with the cake? Do you toss it or can it be used in some other way? Can it be used for an outdoor grow or for some other way involving spreading the mycelium?
What is the idea behind flipping the cake over? Isn't there an advantage with keeping it as before on the side where new primordia are forming?

Well usually by then it's shrunken so much in my environment that that's where the pins form so I give them room to grow.
If you are in a good enough climate you can get some outdoor fruits. It's all in the conditions.
I compost all my spent sub.

It's good advice for anything in life. Only take advice from people who've successfully been down the path you're on. They don't have to the best at it, just at a place you'd like to be.
It's astonishing how many people on Reddit give wrong shroom advice, and they're people who've never posted a shroom pic, or have only posted anemic shrooms.
Then noobs ooh and ahh and how smart they are.

We live in a society which values feels over reality. What's reality? Depends on how I feel today, and today I feel like my advice is pretty good.

Of course torching the needle before, but I was curious if the spores would hold up ok? Thanks
Yes, but some coir has added trich contam (helps plants, ruins shroom grows). Search coir on this page: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=27646632&page=0&vc=1#27646632
i did just that and found nothing. Does being organic make a difference? Should I look for a certain ingredient?

Hey Smelly, somoene's selling pot seeds called "kodama" haha.
https://speakeasyseedbank.com/offerings/bodhi-seeds/kodama
That makes several shroom variety / pot strains that share names: --Ghost --Enigma --Jack Frost --Starry Night --Blue Meanie (actually a cube variety plus a different species)
Another one maybe?
