I've heard the mainstay brand from Walmart is decent. But the ball ones are so much more robust.
You definitely won't regret it. Pricey but worth it.

I love my ball lids, they don't deform from repeated PC cycles and seal well. A little pricey but it pays off in the long run.

1 cycle. 1 fucking cycle and they became garbage. crossthreading, getting stuck, violently popping off and on.

You could just run to the grocery store and pick them up. Not sure price compared to Amazon but I got all of mine at Menards 6 lids for $5. Less than $1 a lid. Still cost $60 to upgrade them all.

I was going to come to the cheap white lids' defense because I have been using mine for over three years. But when I went to look at them, they are Ball lids that look like the cheap white ones, but not available on the zon now. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016YNPH04/
The gray ones look so much nicer, but I guess you can't get 10 wide mouth jars in a 23qt Presto with them. So if you do find the Ball brand white ones, snatch them up. But they may not be available anywhere any more.
To be fair, I do use the silicone rings with them now. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TSQ9DZ1

after growing a few monotubs of shite... and growing a few monotubs of gold... I think its time I get some shoeboxes. mostly to try new genetics in a smaller environment that will show results faster.
are there other reasons shoeboxes are worthwhile?
is 9 liters good enough?

9 liters is good although a little on the large side for shoe boxes. I use the smaller 4-5 ish liter boxes since I can fit 4 of them into my 32 quart tub. They are a perfect size for 1 pint of grains, but a quart of spawn works just fine if you dub tub for larger fruits.

Most shoeboxes are 6l. I use 11l ones that are just taller but they aren't worth the price. It is nice not worrying about them hitting the lid though.
This is a good read too if you intend to ever dubtub and explains the differences between shoeboxes well.
Shoeboxes are great for any spawn that is kind of questionable as well, as you ususlly only use 1 qt per tub.
Highly recommend picking up at least a few for that reason alone.

Found this petrified wood today. Pics don't show how shiny they really are, crystals replace the wood material giving a cool look. I wanna break it down and polish. Some slabs, some beads for me other, maybe some like river rocks. Gonna be neat.

nice! you have an oil saw to cut that up? you could make some nice cabochons if you are into lapidary.
I probably have around a ton or so of rocks from when I started rockhounding that need to be released back in the wild. Buckets and mounds fucking everywhere, it's a nightmare.

I dont but where I live rock hounding is very popular (Turquoise is big) I know alot of people with saws for cutting and I have a cement mixer for tumbling.
This is new for me, haven't really hunted and done this yet. I could get a blade for bench grinder or saw if I keep finding stuff.

Rockhounding is amazing, especially when you just start out. Have fun
I was going to get saws and grinders but decided to just pick whatever's prettiest without needing to work on it, too many hobbies with too much gear. You can get some amazing stuff just lying in the ground with a sledgehammer and chisels.
If you are going to get a saw look into either an oil saw (so a true lapidary saw) or a wet tile saw (not as good but can work and not as much $$). I tried cutting some with a dry saw but it doesn't really work very well.

Well.. I'm not into it enough to buy a special saw.
What's gonna happen is I'll get the best blade or wheel for the task I can, run a hose over the work to cool things like wet saw, and do it making the best of what I got. Of all the people I know that cut rocks, maybe 1 has a real tile saw/wet saw. There's a way around that I'm sure.

nah you don't need a saw right now, just pick shit off the ground and hit it with a hammer.
you can try the hose thing, I did that with a diamond blade on an angle grinder for a while. It was messy and annoying

Harbor freight has a small wet saw for like $60 that would work very well for you.
