Just a sprinkle

That’s some high quality WBS with that amount of millet in it. :intardnet:

Well then if I didn't overdry them, the only other logical explanation is that I undercooked them. But I didn't. 20 mins boil, same as the other day. 90% transluscent with just a tiny touch of white. Al dente, sticks a bit to the tooth.

The mystery of the missing wheat biomass.

Hi beautiful people! I'm having trouble deciding which petri to use for an LC/grain inoculation. The main difficulty stands from the fact that all plates have transparent mycelium even after T2.

Which one would you choose? The most transparent and uniform one? Or the other one?

Thanks to everybody in advance!

SHOEBOXES

Hi everyone,
I'm having some insecurities regarding my shoebox setup, mainly fruiting conditions. First time doing it.

1.
They are on the window sill.
Is this enough light? I see some of you putting them under fluorescent lights.
I'm guessing this is to keep away from prying eyes.
Once pinning starts I would also move them under fluorescent lights, but am wondering how much watts roughly do they need?

2.
I have these latching lids with rubber seal. I cracked them and can see a small gap but I'm not confident in FAE.
I see some of you dubtub, Bod puts a bag over them and punches holes in the bag, Stipe puts them in a bigger tote.
I have a 62 liter tote, unmodified and these two shoeboxes fit perfectly.
What I wanna ask is what do I go with here as the best option for ensuring fruiting conditions?
If I put them in a bigger tote, do I modify the tote in some way?
San Pedro Girl says she takes off the lids and puts the boxes In a fruiting chamber after the pins appear. That sounds like something I can try, but Do I need to modify the big tote?

3.
I don't read that many of you worry about contamination at this point. The shoeboxes on a window sill in the kitchen are smack in the middle of all sorts of contam vectors. Am I good here. Should I move them somewhere else?

4.
Misting. I prepared the substrate to field capacity as Stipe explained in the video. I didn't give initial misting.
Do I mist, or just leave it? If yes, when, that is, how do I tell I they require misting? I read that misting makes the myc surface matted and that this ain't bueno.
One of you wrote to me on the board that he leaves alone until full colonization, then one fine misting, then leaves alone until they need to be dubtubed.
Bod says mist 1 or 2 times a week if you need to, but how do I know if I need to?

Sorry bout the long post, I know you cannot substitute my own experience with this, but hope you can help with some pointers as to what to watch out for.

If they are fully colonized you can go ahead and remove the lids from your small containers but Prior to that i would setup your dubtub as a fc, 2 Holes up high on narrow sides, 4 smaller ones down low on long sides of tub. cover with micro-tape or poly. As for keeping it in the window, if it is out of the sun all day it will work fine but the temps will fluctuate quite a bit if the sun hits that any part of that window, its safer to throw it under a led light, 6500k range for a couple hours a day. LED's work great and don't put off heat for the most part.
If you want you can mist your shoe boxes lightly from a couple feet away, use a true mister not a spray bottle to keep the water particles very small.

This advice is given only after using it myself and witnessing first hand that its use is relevant and beneficial. What Is the temp you'll be fruiting in?

Hey,thank you for taking the time to answer.

You mean the large tote, Not dubtub, no?
My understanding is that the dubtub means another empty shoebox turned over on top and is not modified.

The window is out of the sun all day. I have a 260w led panel. That seems to be too hard core for mushrooms. No? 6500k tells me nothing about the power here, correct me if I'm wrong.

What is a true mister? When I type on Amazon true water mister or water mister I get spray bottles for hairdressers. Is there another name for what you mean.

The fruiting temp is 21 c to 25 c

I've had similar growth as the second one and posted about it, low nutrient in the agar can influence it. What's your recipe? I was at around 1.5%, and I put them on 2% for a T2, they are looking a bit better now. There's also a genetic factor, I assume this is multispore?

Both of them will probably pick up once you put them in grain, although the first one is very transparent. Can you see more growth if you put it on black background with oblique light (from the sides)?

Hairdresser misters are what you want. Or the ones with the pump for plants, with adjustable nozzles, although that's overkill for a shoebox

The hairdresser spray bottle is the one. If you dubtub you do not have to put holes in the top tub. Enough FAE will come just from the gaps. Just passive indirect light is plenty. They’re not light dependent like cannabis.

I'm fucking done with using hot water cups to remove the condensation from the petris. I feel like I'm in goddam tea house orgy with cups everywhere.:mad2:

I'm going to get a hairdrier and put it on low, see if that works.

Yeah, this is multispore. Recipe: 2% LME

Those are the best pics I could get. Using a dark background didn't improve much.

I guess I'll go with the second one then! We'll see how it goes...

I want to give the Poke Tek a try so I guess I'll have to wait and see wether I made mushroom or mold soup!

send them both, so you know for next time

I'd run grain in parallel to the lc so you don't lose too much time if the lc contams

There is no need to dubtub unless the fruits are growing taller than the top of the container. Also, definitely no need to be putting holes in the top container if you do need to dub tub. The gap between the two tubs is plenty for FAE and the less complicating factors and dialling in needed, the better.

Also, ambient light is fine and the sun isn't an issue, unless your temps get really high, as in well above 80F, for long periods of time. The mushrooms do great with ambient light, if that's available. Light isn't really much of a pinning trigger and is primarily a directional cue, so not much is needed at all.

The spray bottles from hairdressers, so long as they put out a fine mist work perfectly well.

Hey Shroomery community,

I need your expertise! I recently encountered a mushroom growth that appears quite abnormal to me. The cap is quite white and larger than expected. Could you please take a look at the attached picture and let me know if this is normal or if something might be off?

Any insights or experiences you can share would be greatly appreciated. I'm fairly new to mushroom cultivation and value your knowledge. Thank you for your help!
