Thanks. The pennington classic looked like it had the least amount of sunflower seeds besides the finch so I just went with the classic.

I like millet and WBS since I can just soak overnight. If I want to I can do no prep millet.
Each grain has their own nuances when it comes to prepping it. You will find the one for you once you have experimented and what is cheapest/closest.
What wbs tek would you recommend to a beginner?

My tek. Pretty straight forward.

Never had a problem with the sunflower seeds either.
Just make sure to stay away from cracked corn.

Cracked corn actually has not been problematic either. In my experience at least.
I have also worked with whole popcorn with good results so I might just have good corn in my area?

Personally, always stayed away from the corn. I’ve seen success with popcorn and corn in general, just not my thing.
And, I’m not sure on the corn in your area, but I live in a corn state as well.

Enjoil do you have a ryegrass prep tek we could try? I have read some amazing things & witnessed and old heads grow first hand - results = cultivating w/rgs produces impressive results mixed with great genetics. Anyhow i feel i must try it myself which in turn led me to purchasing a 40lb bag of rgs just now on amazon. Greatly appreciated.

Wow sorry to not add anything of value to the conversation here but reading this sentence out of context spun me out. Sounded like the most fantastic giberish I've read in a while. Finnegans Wake levels.

So interesting thing happened.
Yesterday I did 2kg wheat, which gave me exactly 6 1L jars filled at 3/4. As soon as I finished boiling the wheat, I run it under cold water, drained it and let in the fridge overnight in the colander.
Today, after cooking the rice I didn't run it under cold water, but spread it hot on some trays and left a fan blowing in them. Had to run get some more jars and stuff, got delayed and probably left the wheat to dry 2-3h. It was bone dry. I could only fill 5 jars and some change.
I feel fucking robbed of a jar and now I have dry wheat.
Anyway, in the PC it goes hopefully the myc will like it.

I always dry my wheat for hours. The myc loves it. I find most people prep their grain too wet, and wonder why they have problems. Properly hydrated, but dry on the outside wheat is just what the mush like.

Yeah I get what you mean. But it was also dry yesterday when I took it out of the fridge, the only jar that has a bit of wetness inside is the one that was lying horizontally.
They look pretty similar inside, 90% translucent, just a tiny bit of white starch. That's how you are supposed to do them, right?
Like this:
So why did I lose like 750ml of wheat mass?

I let it simmer on the stove for 30 minutes then let just toss it on a screen to drain overnight. Shake em after you PC so they’re not one clump…

Trying out some new bird seed. About a dollar more expensive than Penningtons, but much cleaner.

I always dry my oats for 2.5hrs min. I’ve dried for 6hrs before. As a general rule 3hrs is the agreed upon threshold, anything over could possibly dehydrate your grain. Bone dry on the outside is perfectly ok. Super crazy dry spawn still performs better than over-wet.
