I'm an outlier here but I actually do like WBS and, yes plain brown rice (not the UB style one, heaven forbid).

I use it for all of my master G2G jars and the second generation. A lot more inoculation points when transferring to berries. Millet gets down in the crevices.

Isn't WBS mostly millet anyway? At least the bird feed I've been using is something like 70%-80% white millet.
Or maybe the common WBS found in the states are more mixed.

You want whole millet (not hulled or otherwise prepared for human consumption)

Sure is, which is why it takes to being PCd wet so well.

Thanks I got confused because they say whole grain but they are hulled. Unhulled doesn't look as easy to find.

No, they usually come in 40 or 50 pound bags, and they usually only found it feed stores

Yeah, I may have to go that route, anyway. Having a tough time finding millet near me. Maybe I'll take a trip to Tractor Supply Co just to check it out, but their site only lists millet as part of wbs.

Wheat and rye are the shit. Prep is pretty much identical and lots of room for error.

Ok here's what I'm doing today just because I'm irritated and frustrated:
I'm going to Walmart on the way home, I'm grabbing a bag of Pennington Classic, going home and slapping a couple jars of it in the PC, then I'm taking a couple of my clean looking T1s that I don't give a shit about, and I'm hucking them into those jars like throwing stars (in a sab, of course). That will give me something to look at while I'm still deciding.

Hysteria said: Interesting read, sounds kinda simple and a bit scary at the same time. I might send all 20 of my T2 plates if they keep going without contam. It's MSS so I'm not trying to isolate. If I do, I can test a couple with no prep to see how it goes, but I'm too scared to do all of them that way on my first bulk!
Not to scare you, you'll probably be fine, but I had a few T2 plates which looked spotless with full plate even Rhizo that looked bacterial in jars. Probs worth transferring 1 of them to a few T3 plates as backup & to save disappointment, if the jars don't work out you'll have a load of t3 plates ready to go.
