This one has a little green, but this looks either like the start of what was on the others or bruising

Hi everyone, Doing a few shoeboxes for the first time. I read the write up from mushboy.
I'm wondering if there is something else more recent that I should be looking at, another write-up from someone else that has more details on the process, meaning what to look out for, do I spray it do I leave it alone, when do I crack the lid if at all, how should the surface moisture look like etc.
I don't have the classic shoebox but a Tupperware type box that has a sealed lid with latches.
Kind regards to all.

your boxes are fine. how tight do they close when unlatched? can you see a tiny air gap or not? shoeboxes are pretty much "set and forget". normally i wait until full colonization and then i unlatch, give them one initial fine misting and leave them be until they need to be dubtubbed.

I think that's old info that's not needed, the separate colonization conditions from grow conditions.
I'm having good results using same conditions for both:
shoebox lid on upside down, allowing a little FAE gap, from the day I make my shoeboxes until the shrooms are too tall for the shoebox lid, then I dub tub with a second upside down shoebox to replace the lid.
I know shrooms will grow with the separate conditions, but it's less effort to use same for both, and I think they might grow better with same for both.
There are a few TCs at least that do the same conditions for both. If I'm remembering correctly, Bod is one of them. Bod?

High CO2 levels are beneficial for mycelium growth until pin development. Fruits profit from lower CO2 and more oxygen. If this doesnt make sense, then i cannot help. Personally i dont see the disadvantage in leaving a box latched until its consolidating, on the contrary. but hey, if unlatching is too much work, sure.. don't latch in the first place and save the energy. after all they will grow anyways.

Thank you for answering, I do see a very tiny gap. I think I can make this work if I just take out the rubber seal or lightly lay the lid on top without pushing it down. Seems there should be a small gap for air to go through when unlatched.

So you recommend latching an air tight tote?
Substrates don’t consolidate that’s a term given to high density cake material to ensure proper colonization.
If you can only say something outdated but can’t back it up because ‘you can’t help’ then why post the advice?
Why are we beating this dead horse I remember this shit being argued about 6yrs ago.
Co2 doesn’t sink in tubs it diffuses with air if co2 sank like that we would die if we went into a ditch.

No, I certainly don't, but thats why i asked. if it seems tight enough unlatched, thats how i would let them until it has fully colonized.

Ok, thank you for clearing this up.
If you can only say something outdated but can’t back it up because ‘you can’t help’ then why post the advice?
The fact that high CO2 levels during colonization are beneficial is contested by you?
Why are we beating this dead horse I remember this shit being argued about 6yrs ago.
I am not beating anything.
Co2 doesn’t sink in tubs it diffuses with air if co2 sank like that we would die if we went into a ditch.
You are making my point! That's exactly why MY shoeboxes stay latched until colonization is done. And then I unlatch or flip the lid, CO2 levels drop, O2 rises. This is what i call fruiting conditions.

i wasnt referring to this particular conversation with you. just this horse seems to be out and about for some reason.
those conditions are happening anyway because no tubs are air tight. the co2 raising and dropping is an illusion.
you know you can open air fruit cubes really easily? no lid ever. just helicopter misting.
like this tub.

wheres the co2?
put a substrate in a truly air tight tub like one for pet food and watch that shit die.
if you go further in one direction and the organism dies but the other direction like open air fruiting and they thrive?
