I ended up spawning some jars that showd signs of bacterial contamination. I also prepped some wbs differently by giving it a 12 hr soak instead of 24 hrs and allowing the grain to dry overnight. I also plan on using them immediately after cooled, instead of having sterilized grain sit for weeks before being used. I'm hoping these improvements will help my bacteria issue.

What does the culture youβre inoculating with look like? And how are you inoculating?

I'm going from spore to agar, agar to grain. Most of my plates are no pour ziplock containers, and I tiger dropped a couple fully colonized dishes, a few others I took wedged. The glass petri dishes looked great with no contaminates visible and I took some wedges from that. I'll take a couple pics from where I took transfers. This one is atl7

I was reading yesterday he has had his patent approved for the 'Stamets Stack'. For anyone that doesn't know it's Psilocybin, Lion's Mane & Niacin (a vasodilator) & received $60M in funding lol
"Our findings of mood and mental health improvements associated with psilocybin microdosing add to previous studies of psychedelic microdosing by using a comparator group and by examining the consistency of effects across age, gender, and mental health. Findings regarding the combination of psilocybin, HE and B3 are novel and highlight the need for further research to confirm and elucidate these apparent effects."

I very much doubt he received a patent for the stack at this point, it's been disclosed to the public for too long. No patent office in the world would allow it.

Interesting, I thought stacking had been around longer. That patent has priority to 2016 and the earliest mention of stacking I can find with a quick Google search was in late 2017.
It appears he filed the patent before publicly disclosing the stack, so it's valid.

I'm excited to see how these dub tub and monos do, so far so good. I could probably introduce them to fruiting very soon. I still haven't set up my tent, but that will get done this weekend. The tent will just have some shelving and a led light bar or 2.

The two monos in the middle are a couple days behind. These are all Texas yellow cap a,b,c and a mix of the three in the dub tub.

Question: has anyone considered a sous vide to hot soak grains before PCing?

Havenβt thought of it. Mine goes up to like 200 I think. Is the intention to avoid over hydration?

Smelly I had thought to recreate the sound vide effect but using a crock pot. Basically load grains in a mesh bag, figure some sort of trivet to keep it off the walls, and experiment with the cook time at a given temperature.
Initial runs would take testing, but once dialed you would just load the bag, toss it in the cooker, and hit the timer. Would eliminate stirring and basically just be a more repeatable / hands free simmer. I like it.

I would soak my wbs between 12 and 24 hrs, recently brought it down to just over 12. Than I heat it on the stove just until it starts to boil and than I dump it in a strainer, let the water drain out till it stops running and than I lay them on a dishtowel ontop of a cookie tray or these clean boot trays until dry, I'll time it so I can leave it over night on my table and in the morning I load it up.

Or, you could try low prep! Dump grains in jar, add water, into the PC!

I use your writeup as reference material. Question:
How do you account for the added moisture from washing grains? Or am I overthinking it?

Maybe if you want to get scientific just weigh one cup of grain to establish dry vs wet weight and adjust the water per jar accordingly.
I got good hydration no prepping at 50% water by weight. Did however see some minor bacteria growth in the entire batch. Iβd PC for like 1:45-2:00 hrs next time, given that the grains center is not hydrated until part way through the cycle
