Hey I have a couple jars and was asking myself, whether I should do two smaller tubs with less substrate, maybe 2-3cm or one bigger one with 6cm depth. I kinda feel like, from experiences in the past, that bigger mycelium blocks where somehow stronger and contaminated less. Do you share that observation or was that a missattribution or something?
The benefits of splitting of course would be that if one contams, I only have to throw away one of the tubs and also that oxygen can get into the substrate better. What do you think?

your spawn is clean or it isnโt, bigger or smaller ratios donโt really affect that in terms of being more or less contam prone. you just wanna make sure the sub has enough water to pull from for a proper flush, 2-4โ depth is generally good
spreading your spawn out does make it safer if you have jars youโre not sure about but wanna spawn anyways.

Hi all.
I've shaked, for the second time (first time was around 25% colonization) my first jar when it was like in the picture below: 14 days have passed, and it never recovered, like it wasn't inoculated at all. I've searching it about and I guess that the cause is due to contamination, but damn, it even looked healthy. There's no more signs of life inside it, just plain grains.
Here's the picture just before the shake:

Should I just dump it?

iโve had jars like that unfortunately /: it sucks when stuff looks promising. that jar looks a touch off to me, the way the grains are exposed on the glass reminds me of my jars that went bacterial. paired with the lack of recovery iโd def say thereโs something up in there

My cubes are quite sensitive to temperature. From 0-40% I keep them at 75f, then they start to build a little heat themselves, so I lower their room temp to 71f. They slow a lot if I go any lower than that.

I was kind of hoping that the temperature may be the reason. I keep them at 71ยฐf in the night (when I'm at home, from 6 P.M. o'clock), but during the day the temperature goes down to 68ยฐF, I guess. I know it's a bit low for them, but they've managed to colonize a good part of the jar (as you can see in the picture) in these same conditions.
Still no signs of life, so yeah, I'm planning to dump it soon.

my sub recipe is as follows:
example: let a brick weight 650g
x5
so that would be 3250g water (or 3.23 liters)
two quarts of verm.

Thatโs 7 quarts right? My shoebox is only 6 qt. Donโt you want plenty of empty space too?

Once you compress the sub, itโll fit with room to spare. And no, you donโt need extra room.

I like to shake, spawn and sub, inside a small, cheap garbage bag.
If you can find the right bags that will fit in the sb, corner to corner.
Just drop it in after shake up- fold bag over edges and start packing sides first the middle. Also a spare sb that fits inside well can help give even compression. Don't half ass this step either .... compress- level- compress- level- then casing/top layer don't use as much pressure (don't want your previous work to be undone or too much coir un evenly distributed.

BeefSupremeJr said: well, since we are on the subject, I thought I would share my liner technique:
I'm not going to do a whole write up because it's pretty straightforward.
I basically put the whole box into a kitchen bag. I mix my sub and spawn just the way I told you.
I pour it in there. Level and press.
Two more qts on top. Level and press.
Then I use a razor blade and cut the liner a half inch above the substrate level. You can use a piece of cardboard or whatever if you are concerned about scratching your tub. I personally don't give a shit.

use the other half for another tub
Whoops just seen this ๐ฌ

Itโll all work. I use 1:3 with a 1 part pseudocasing.

My 1/2 inch pins have stalled, donโt think theyโre going to make it. My block is super dry.
Just so I can understand this, spawn dehydrates your substrate correct? I didnโt use enough (1:1.5) and thatโs itโs so dry and producing weak fruits?

As far as I can tell itโs basically somebody really pushing the limits of decriminalization. But itโs only for a handful of cities idk how theyโre justifying nationwide.

Ok, what do you guys think ...
my temps were too low for a while, had to put a radiator in my grow closet. since I put it in there, 1 grainspawn bag sped up bigtime, to the point where its almost ready to be sent to a tub. 1 bag has the tiniest amount of mycelium growing and the other 2 have none (neither myc nor contam). I'm considering re-inoculating, though double inoculation is an invitation for contam. Or, should I just wait longer?
inoculated with LC roughly a month ago
