PF tek is great to start out and get a feel for things, especially for somebody with limited time or resources.

josex uses it to clean up bacterial cultures, pins & fruits really well if you're just looking for clone material/prints & don't wanna spawn a whole tub

PF tek is great to start out and get a feel for things, especially for somebody with limited time or resources.
I go back to the pf tek from time to time to remind myself where i came from. it's an opportunity to sit down and be humble for me.

pf tek is good for a few things...noobs without a pc, cleaning up bacterial cultures, just for fun...
but if have a pc and you want cakes that produce more fruit, try your hand with Kramer Cakes... I was averaging a lil over half oz per cake when I ran them forever ago... they are a lot less forgiving that brf cakes so DO NOT shoot spores into jars... blenderless LI or a clean LC is best to inoculate them with

My shoeboxes seem to be drying out even with the lid on. I live in Denver, high and dry.
They donβt seal very well, should there be a tight seal?

Id say your coir moisture is inadequate. your ratio of spawn to sub might need bumped too
whats your recipe.

also, i put a weight on top while i am colonizing.
be wary, those in more humid climates will say "you dont need to do that" but i live in the desert and i totally have to do things that others dont.
my coir mix is 5x brickweight in water +2qts verm.
4:1 spawn ratio then 2qts of casing.
so its a 7qt total spawn. that gives me all the water i need until second flush but i still gotta dunk.

I did 1:2 shredded pf tek to coir/verm. Field capacity was several drops because the last one was barely any and I wanted more moisture.

i live in the high desert & a heavily misted top layer at spawn has done me wonders. i wouldnβt say strictly necessary, but itβs made enough of a difference that i personally do it every time now. everyoneβs conditions are gonna be different. more humidity is never gonna hurt cubes as long as you can dial FAE in alongside it

All that really matters is results. A good grower is one who is able to identify conditions and adjust for it, not someone who adheres to a rigid formula regardless of region.

whats your recipe.
I did 1:2 shredded pf tek to coir/verm. Field capacity was several drops because the last one was barely any and I wanted more moisture.
1:2 isnt enough water for the desert. (id consider denver pretty much a desert in terms of rh)
you have 3 quarts total and 7 is barely enough to flush once.
field capacity isnt really something you wanna guess with either. you need to establish a baseline for data so you know where youve been and where to go.
a "few drops" could mean 3.5x brick weight depending on how hard youre squeezing. subjective assessmsnts can get you in trouble.
I think you and I probably are operating in a similar climate. in fact i know we are. Id try 5x brick weight then add more verm if you think its too wet. i personally have found this to be a solid figure for *our climate
if i did this in maine where im at half the year, it would be a disaster.

Yeah Iβm working work around 10% RH all year too. For a long time I was doing fine but having to mist every day or so. Then I tried making my sub a little bit wetter and it made a HUGE difference. Field cap is tricky cuz thereβs a big range that works fine but a small sweet spot. Now I donβt touch after spawning.
Also if you have ac or a heater running a lot like I do itβs very hard to keep them from drying out. I started putting my shoeboxes into a slightly larger tub with pastyβs hole pattern on them and now everything is bulletproof.
