I see, so you're saying germinate one plate, then transfer a slice to another plate, grow that out, then use the second plate to inoculate? Or do I misunderstand?
Yeah, sometimes it takes 2 or 3 or more to make sure your culture is clean.
This is blue meanie on transfer 2, going to do 1 more hoping it becomes more uniform. I don't trust the extra fuzziness.

Does anyone else use the dumbest fucking labeling system imaginable?
I draw shapes on top of my jar lids, then on top of the agar plates that they came from. Then when it comes time to figure out what I got I match the shape on the petri to the jar lid, and I know what I'm growing. I have 4 different colors, and I think I've come up with 5 shapes. Circle, square, x triangle, plus. I guess my gaming history had shown through my mushroom cultivation.
To be fair, I just decided to label them numbers 1-10 and everything that is the same will now get the same number... but man... left to our own devices we sometimes do dumb shit.
-------------------- If you've never grown mushrooms before, here's how you start. First, follow the Updated PF Tek, put 4 holes in jar lids not 1, and use a water tub! The next move is Shoebox Tek. After that you move onto grains, agar, monotubs. Agar is easy, just do it. Other useful links - Picture guide for how things should look and proper surface conditions guide Growing APE or PE? P9 pseudo casing tek

I’ll use symbols sometimes. Truth of the matter is my labeling system is arbitrary and bare bones. Variety, T, date. That’s it. I’ll put a squiggle for streak plate. A G# for generation if it’s a clone.
I don’t keep detailed records and you can’t make me.

Haha, yeah. I'll never be one of the organized, but I've realized one of my jars is now a mystery jar because I didn't save the petri lid with the corresponding shape. I don't care, shoebox and coir, whatever.
I doubt I'll ever change, but I'd enjoy less little hiccups like that.

I have hundrds of pages of notes going back to 2008 but I can't remember why I did them in the first place because they are near indecipherable, or at least worthy of a deep dive if i aim to recollect anything. Tying all the strings together makes my head spin sometimes with all the projects I've got going. I usually just keep up with the last few pages while I'm keeping track of current cultures and clones. Maybe I'll just burn it all.

Usually I label everything like this: [Abbreviated genus] [species] [variety if applicable]-[clone name if applicable] [transfer number starting with T0] [date] Example:

I leave out the genus and species with cubes.

Shit, you didn't even abbreviate a thing. I use symbols because I'm lazy a shit and not going to write out a long name, or even a short acronym (APE, JMF, ECQ, B+, GT), twice.
I envy your patience. My lack there of is my greatest weakness. Besides bananas, they are lethal to me, even though they've always been my favorite fruit or whatever the fuck they are. Who the hell knows after seeing such images as the "Berry club."

Shit, I had to grab that image just to show those of you who haven't seen it before a reference, and I was right. Them fucks might not be fruits after all, apparently they're berries? WTF.

Even if you keep your shit 100% secret you’re still just one bit of bad luck from fucked.
I spoke to a guy who’s house had a small fire from faulty wiring while he was at work. Fire department found his couple tubs of shrooms and he came home to police waiting for him.
Shit like that is my biggest fear

Friends vengeful ex girlfriend threw a brick through his front window and same story. They dont need a warrant if they have reason to believe a crime is currently in progress, went in to check the place out and make sure he wasnt being robbed then basically justxrobbed him themselves...

Smellyhobbit said: I do have a sorely neglected hobby. This year I wont be dumping so many hours into everything, since I’m downsizing just a little and I’ve learned so much. A lot more setting and forgetting.
I need to get back into painting.
My break is only a month long, but I still don’t like it. Felt like I was just getting good.
Having said that, Aka, I definitely know what you mean about losing that little bit of stress.
Hey smelly.
We grew shrooms to have shrooms to improve life, then growing shrooms became life.
I take breaks from this website more than I take breaks from growing. haha. It's good for me, especially since I've changed, and this site has changed, a lot, in the 30 or so months since I signed up here.
As for breaks from growing: The ONLY reason I got into this was simple: TO HAVE SOME SHROOMS (without having to deal with sleazy "drug dealer" types.)
I imagine that's the reason most people make accounts on Shroomery.
I also imagine a lot of people on here quickly grow more shrooms than they can use, keep growing, and then their reason to grow is to grow. And they don't notice the change in priorities, because it happens slow.
I'm not growing just to grow now. I'm only growing to do particular things...work on isolating a cool pheno (that's back on track now, by the way, I passed my road block), or do some experiments (actual experiments, using clones only, and having a thesis, and using a control group.).
If I ever run out of experiments, I'd take a break without feeling bad about it. A year ago that would not be the case, but is now. Hobbies, life, friends, loved ones, there's a lot more than growing shrooms.
It's OK to take a break. And I like your paintings. Would love to see more, and some new ones.

Probably not much exciting. I forget the name but I can remember bod telling me clones tend to not share or take in genetics from other myc. This is why we cross spores instead of clones most the time.
Myc from ms growth can share genetics info qnd cross.
But to be practical, two pins from the same plate probably ain't that different anyway, especially from a stable variety. I doubt you'll notice anything different.

Thank you! I've been blessed with some particularly beautiful cultures from my LAGM work so far.

Almost makes up for my pan germ plates being 100% white mold! Pretty sure something is riding along with the nat still but I'm working on it.

having my first go at making mushroom chocolate!! tempering is a bitch & i didn’t quite get it right with my first chocolate-only trial run, hoping these came out a bit better. i def need to add more chocolate to the mix next time, was kinda just eyeballing it. these moulds are kinda huge too so each bar is roughly 4g. was taking taste tests as i was mixing it all up & it’s a delicious earthy chocolate flavor. looking forward to snapping into one when i get the time
