respectfully, i disagree. Ive used that exact heater to heat an entire greenhouse, 15' x 90'. for sure, the other end was a bit cooler than end with the heater not negligibly for growing plants.
in your chamber, that heater is gonna make that thing CONSISTENTLY hot as hell sir. thats a shit ton of BTU,s youre dealin with. I actually think youll need a DAYTON thermostat to make sure it isnt getting TOOOOO hot.
Not sure how hot is too hot. I wouldnt worry about the shrooms so much as damaging plastic construction materials?
not sure why youd need an exaust plenum except maybe to keep that hot air to heat your house . or get rid of it in summer.

yeah if i were to build this thing, i would make my own thermostat with an arduino and a thermocouple inside the drying chamber. that way i can program it to do whatever i want.
there would be no plastic. the whole thing would be constructed with metal bun racks and sheet metal.
i'm pretty sure the air directly downwind of the heat exchanger is 120-160F in a normal house furnace and by the time it comes out of your vents it is about 110-130F but i'm not HVAC technician so idk.
the exhaust plenum is there because Mr heater has a auto shut off if the room gets too hot. but that's just an unknown concern. i dont know for sure. it might not be necessary.

It is a ball of agar. I make agar art.

but ya. if youre worried about inconsistencies you could put a occilating fan in the chamber but I wouldn't cross that bridge until you actually arrive at it. I personally think this thing is going to consistently make a shit ton of cracker dry shrooms. IN A HURRY.

90% of my resume is doing greenhouse HVAC and electric.
i think a diffuser would help if youre real concerned about it. i would not personally fuck wirh an arduino . dayton is the boy that gets the job done in the hort industry. simple, accurate, reliable.
let me know if you ever build it . its a great idea.

i will
is there any other way you'd build a diffuser for this kind of setup? any other way besides a giant plenum attached to the back of the dehydrator and a bunch of pinholes? (like my drawing)
the good thing about using an arduino is that it could integrate with a smart home if you have one. you could monitor the humidity, temperature, and airflow of the dehydrator when you aren't there. you could set up alerts to text message you when the numbers aren't what they should be (for example: temperature too high/low). i wouldn't recommend anyone to play with arduinos because they are complicated but if you are already familiar with microcontrollers then they are great.

yea. i mean... i dont mean you need to buy anythint. maybe make something? I dunno. R&D is fun but i try to not solve problems before they have surfaced but im often in positions of having established budgets etc so.. take it for what its worth.

You should be planning for alot bigger room, iβd say at least 6 bun racks. Might as well just build a room with a door if youβre throwing all that money at sheet metal, heater and racks.
Tbh iβd skip the bun racks and build wooden framed shelves/drawers with window screen that slide in and out, way more cost efficient and since youβll be drying so much space custom building those to fit instead of fitting a box around the bun racks would make more sense to me

i calculated out the square footage and each bun rack could dry close to 10 lbs. i don't have need for 6 bun racks, or really even 1 full bun rack this is mostly just a thought experiment
and i'm scared of wood+heat

My point exactly lol, go cut off a bucket and pop it on your nesco, then when youβre ready to step up get a weston or cabelas. If that still doesnt fit your needs we can go back to dreamland and build you out a sweet dry room, iβve been drying plant materials in wooden buildings for about a decade lol.
If its hot enough to combust the wood your mushrooms wouldnt be far behind lol

I just bought a presto 6300 dehydrator (fan & element sit on top) And I plan to play with making a horizontal rectangle container that holds about a dry pound of fruits. When collapsed from being dried, the brick will be the shape that can fit into my 11" vacuum sealer roll bags.
If I get overwhelmed with yields, I could just set a fan on a spare "brick maker trough" until the head unit is freed up. Wish me luck.

Cut slits in the side and run a fan, small fruits stacked tight take a long time And Iβve always had to stir to fet even drying. Pressing them into a brick sounds like a bad idea to me but if you do it iβd wait till theyre dry but still pliable to packcthem and make 100% sure to get it bone dry
