Your jars look fine, and the uncolonized verm at the top appears to just be your dry verm layer.

Thanks Mr.Piggy! It's been 20+ years for me and I'm a little overwhelmed with all the mis information out there. Thinking about it the dry verm layer is what protects the holes from contam during incubation.. duh.I have no forum etiquette if I derailed the thread I won't post anymore.
Thanks again to all

This is exactly what this thread is for homie. Welcome back to the game. Post some updates on those bad boys when you can and yes, the misinformation is rampant. We might figure out more stuff and get better at this everyday but the BS also builds up everyday along with it. Lots to wade through

I know the SGFC isn't a favorite any more, but that's the setup I built before seeking current practice and my last terrarium was a cooler with a drip shield in it lol. My set up is as follows
20L tote 6 small exhaust holes, 1 hydroponic humidifier with air hose installed at top of tote,1 inch of pearlite(no standing water), full spectrum light 12 on 12 off and lid is loose fitting. Any suggestions before b-day?

My Lucy melmac clone has rust colored spores. Is it possible that back in the day when I took prints/swabs that this grow came from that my melmac spores were "contaminated" with rusty white causing a cross? I didn't think much of it at first. The cake this clone came from had mostly normal gold colored caps but I cloned a white capped fruit and now that I'm fruiting the clones I'm getting rust colored spores. Thought back to when I harvested these melmac spores and I had alot of RW fruiting at the time.

Or could it just be a coincidence that my Lucy melmac clone also has rust spores?

Hope y'all don't mind if I bump this. Also anyone have a pic of rust spores. These appear to be more of a brown than a rust spore as they don't appear red at all more of a dark brown but I also haven't seent a rust print in years so I don't remember how red they appeared or if they would also appear darker on occasion.

Edit: I guess it does appear sort of rust colored in the pic. Not so much in person.

I did also have golden halo going at the same time but the golden halo I had received only ever printed regular black/purple spores. So I doubt that had anything to do with it. I also didn't intentionally cross any of these varieties I'm curious really if it's a coincidence or if varieties grown in the same grow space can easily cross "contaminate" each other.

I may try and stabilize this and pass it around but I doubt I'll be able to get anywhere before I close it down. When I started back up I had a little down time now I'm busy from the time I wake until the time my head hits the pillow and the days aren't getting any longer I'm not getting any younger.

i think the gold & rust just kinda overlap on color at a certain point. the gold prints need certain light to really shine ime anyways. but still super sick. if you get the time to stabilize it would be dope but i understand, you gotta live life & don’t always have time. if you get anywhere with it i’d take a print. i love chasing spore colors lol

do any of you make raisins in your food dehydrators? i just did on a whim & they are delicious

Haven't tried raisins, but I make apple chips with mine. Slice and toss with cinnamon, they are also delicious.

apple chips are my shit. i usually just do em raw & they are delicious on their own (i also love eating the semi dehydrated ones as they are drying, sooo good lol). i need to try them with cinnamon, maybe a tiny bit of brown sugar. i just don’t always have time to cut up 12 apples into rings

raisins were super simple, just blanched the raisins until they were splitting, put them in cold water until they cooled, then strained & tossed on the tray. so easy

I like to make banana chips in mine I coat them in honey water before dehydrating. I don't do them alongside the mushrooms though they can be a mess.

Nice! I haven't thought about banana chips. @hazy I sometimes add some brown sugar, but it makes everything a little more sticky.
