That's very dry and maybe moldy. I'd mist it good and put it in a misted ziplock (can't tell from that 1 pic but I have a feeling your FC is too big for 2 cakes)

Ok thank you.  Don't know about the size of the FC, could be I thought it was just right to have enough room for the fruiting bodies.
There are 3 cakes in it, each cake is about 450 ml volume and the chamber is 40x32x38 cm so something like 0,05 cubic meters or roughly 12 gallon volume for FC.
Since it's my first grow I have no feel for whats too big.

Thanks for the advice I think i'm gonna try to put it in a misted ziplock and see cause this is worrying me that it might contaminate the good cakes.

usually smaller containers are better for cakes because it holds moisture in better, it should be pretty much wall to wall w cakes. a ziplock would be a good call

The explanation I thought made sense for why cakes are good for using syringes is because the surface is so chunky that if there happens to be bacteria in the syringe it will be kinda trapped in place and have a hard time growing through all the holes and verm chunks.

yeah that’s what i kinda figure too. even on agar bacteria doesn’t tend to move much or branch out like other molds ime. plus if you don’t break up the cake it’s essentially the same theory as top fruiting a bacterial jar insofar as that you’re not breaking up the myc & weakening it & spreading around the bacteria

That is a very interesting way to grow!  And yes, I understand how you could use the sour cream container now.  That AA book grow is nuts, lol.

i noticed my greek yogurt containers were also pp5, but i kinda figured the snap on lid would let contams in. but thinking about it more, it's gotta be similar to the ketchup container agar plates? i may have to try some out for a bottle grow

Is the dark color on the JMF tub because they started dumping spores?  What does that mean for the grow?  Should I have harvested sooner?  Noob questions...

It does look like some sporulation has occurred. Doesn’t mean much besides some spores on your fruits. They’re fine for harvest.

Last night I was discussing a few topics with an acquaintance and he brought up the topic of improving fruiting by adding large magnets above and below the tub to create some form of magnetic pull through the sub.

I was fairly intrigued when he told me the results were telling and then he sent me photos and videos of the guy that originally tested the idea out..... sub par tubs with terrible flushes, bacterial looking tubs, etc
Just all around piss poor growing yet he was claiming the magnet was drastically improving his yield because apparently the bulk of the mushrooms grow where the magnet was.

Just a total shit show of tubs with blackened out sides and zero clue of how to grow effectively.
I have refrained from telling the guy what an utter fuck up I thought it was.

It amazes me how we justify crap to ourselves to some how believe the shit we do is valid.

Without going much further into it ill just post this single image.
