i think you kinda HAVE to be cool to stick around here. not in a gatekeeping way, just that assholes & idiots weed themselves out pretty quick. i love the culture on here but real shit heads tend to self destruct. there isnβt any coddling of course, but all of the regulars on here have been nothing but nice to me
honestly makes a lot of sense the average age on here would be more 30+. the site is super old in terms of the internet & forums/message boards like the shroomery are a dying breed unfortunately. i started cult in my early 20s & have been at it for a few years now so i kinda just assumed most newer accounts were around the same age. hard to tell when itβs completely anonymous so you kinda just assume
Yeah, you're probably a handful of years younger than me.

Yeah, I was thinking about the age of the site too, the message board structure still feels very much like an older part of the net, and how that probably filters traffic in a way that leads to older users, especially when younger folks are likely to already be on Reddit etc.
I think itβs possible too that younger folks likely may not have the same kind of free time / grow space / budget etc to stick to the hobby over a longer period of time, so they could pop in here, learn just enough to get a harvest or two and then they move on, so we may not see as many of them hang around here long term.
Certainly both generalizations can not be applied to everyone who falls in any age group, just a couple thoughts.

absolutely. one of the things i really love about this community is how itβs actually a ton of amateur science going on & as long as you can prove your shit no one has a problem. but i think a lot of people donβt like being told they are wrong, even if you do it in the nicest way (thinking of the occasional box fan flowhood build that totally works-also iβve never used agar before but the design is flawless). the people on here that are serious about cultivation tend to have an open mind & are willing to learn & reassess. a lot of the oldest & most experienced members on here learn just as much as the rest of us do when new information presents itself
you can definitely be a prick & also be good at growing mushrooms, but i think the community here has done a good job of trying to nip ego in the bud & cultivate a friendly & informative environment as long as everyone is on the same page. kind of amazing to me the ego that some people can have- like, they DO take mushrooms, right?? how are you still an asshole?? lol. (there are some pre⦠2014ish? posts that are quite flame war-y lol but the past half decade + has been really wonderful)
i think itβs a mix of being like-minded, interested in cultivation, & also being a group of psychedelic drug users lol. outside of my close friend group, most people i know have MAYBE tried mushrooms once. im always shocked that no one seems to know what mescaline is lol. i agree, it does feel like a family & the security & camaraderie here is just so great. on a recent trip i was thinking a bit about how much this community has given me & how much i appreciate all yβall here & i canβt tell you how much it means to me
@sirpsycho: i mean uhh, im totally 38!! property taxes amirite? aha
@egon: i think youβre right about that. most social media platforms are dogshit in terms of layout & functionality, but i see why younger people who werenβt exposed to internet forums would see the shroomery as antiquated. i quite like it for that reason, but yeah itβs not very sleek lol. also very good point- i kinda forget people lurk. there have to be a ton of people who never even made accounts who have used the site for info. another good point about the long term cultivation, im sure there are plenty of people who got a few flushes or have a grow every few years just to get some usable mushrooms. i forget not everyone is hyper obsessed with the cultivation aspect like some of us are

Haha sounds like my partner, has no interest in this side of it all but finds the cacti cool looking especially the varigated ones. His actually gone ahead and purchased a varigated Trich for me, looks pretty awesome.

shrimps- thatβs so adorable! she sounds wonderful. peyote are such cute little dudes. having a partner thatβs supportive of your hobbies is so important. that reminds me, i need to post over in the loph growers thread. iβve got some babies at about 1.5yrs old & i need some advice
adas- absolutely. this community is a beautiful thing & itβs only getting better & better. i feel lucky to be a part of it at all, the future is bright here
syntex- very jealous of the variegated cacti. they seem pretty rare. there are some variegated dragon fruit that look amazing. cacti in general are beautiful creatures

Why do I keep trying to get better a mush cult and grow more/better/diverse mushrooms when I already have more than I can eat and share?
And y'all share that with me. We sick?
