If that can help with your nervosity : the quantity (or depth) of blue isn't related to potency in any way.

That fact that they are PE is.

Enjoy :flyhigh:

Yes. A lot of very strong PEs barely bruise.

Bluing is caused by psilocin and psilocybin, but amount of blue is more based on the amount of two enzymes, not the amount of psilocin and psilocybin.

One enzyme turns psilocybin to psilocin. The other enzyme turns psilocin into a non-psychedelic blue indole chain that is related to natural Indigo dye.

Do you know if anyone has used psilocybes to dye? I’ve done it with many other mushrooms but that blue would be super cool!

Day 1

Day 3

I think I'm at 1:1 sub to spawn ratio, but I still don't know exactly how to calculate it.  I'm feeling pretty good about these, hopefully it keeps going well.  I'd like to have a successful first try at this 😊

Jars/bags of spawn : Jars/bags of sub

volume based ratio

4 quarts of spawn, 8 quarts of sub is 1:2 for example

I know for a fact that some TC do 1:6 ratio.

If your spawn is clean, you can easily go 1:4.

Something I read here recently (can't recall from who but it was a TC): "1:1 can create mutations. 1:2 is a waste."

At risk of sounding dumb I have to ask this.  Sorry if I'm overthinking but I've been following Bods easy AF for everything and having success so I want to keep following directions at first before I start experimenting.  Here's how I calculated, let me know if I'm right or how I should do it if this is wrong

650g dry coir + 2,275g water = 2,925ml coir/water mix.  2,925ml = 3.091 qts.  I put 4 jars of spawn in but the jars were 2/3 full, so 2.66 qts of spawn.  So that's close to 1:1 ratio if I did that right.  Or is that not how you do it...

Next time, put your substrate in a quart jar, then your fruiting chamber or w/e. Count how many times you fill it. That will help lol not sure if your method works or not.

a quart jar of spawn is considered a β€œmyco quart,” so while the jar may only be 1/2 or 2/3 full it’s considered a full quart in terms of spawning. the water content or gram weight of the coir doesn’t matter because it’s just the volume of a quart when talking about sub ratios

honestly man don’t get too wrapped up in calculating every milligram, you can literally just eyeball it & it’ll be fine. anything between 1:1-1:4 spawn to sub is gonna work great. i usually do around 1:2-1:3 eyeballed with a 1/2” top layer of coir at the end. if your sub is about 3” deep you’re fine

Ooh I bet! That's a great idea! I've played around a bunch with different kinds of mushroom dyes, lobsters, Hydnellum, Phaeolus so I'm also interested to see what else works. If the blueing of psilocybe can be captured in a fabric, that would be really cool.

Also, Phaeolus schweinitzii tea is fluorescent and makes a cool glowing body paint when mixed with other stuff!

It's a bit of a pain filling jars with coir, you can get quart scoops

A quart scoop sounds great. I have a big spoon that fits perfectly into a wide mouth quart jar, so loading it with coir takes maybe 10 seconds. But if I could just have a scoop that would be awesome.
