Thanks guys, you all rock! I did squeeze a handful of the coir and got a few drops of water to drop out. I did 3.5 times water to coir (650g coir x3.5 = 2,275 ml of water). My grains were too wet at first so I thought I'd go dryer on the sub. I am more concerned about being too wet right now than too dry but i will dial it in as I learn more.
All that being said, can I add water if it is too dry? Or maybe mist a lot? I don't really know how the surface should look yet, so I'll have to research more and watch it.

This really makes me happy, the GIF mostly, but the humbleness and respect too.
How do you add GIFs? I've been trying to figure this out with no luck.

I 100% agree with this. If I don't see Hindsight with a TC badge by 2023, I'll be depressed

Here’s a strange question. These guys smell like dried dog piss. Is that normal or bad?

Ok this is my I don’t know anything hypotheses of why maybe they smell like dry dog piss. I might of misted to heavy while they were growing. Tried to just mist the walls and top tub but prbly got some on the caps. And the extra time this variety seems to take might have something to do with it. Here’s three of them where it seems the caps are starting to decompose? Soooo thoughts?

Also, I wanted to ask if you think there's anything fishy about any of these pics of spawn.
And does the depth of the sub in these tubs look OK? I put 4 jars of rye spawn in with 650g (dry weight) of coir. I guess it would be about 27 oz of dry weight rye berries.
Looking for your full support on this one everyone! Thank you!

Hey, no one commented about your spawn yet so I will. Unfortunately it looks a little bacterial. And regarding your sub depth, I'm not entirely sure because I don't know the size of the tub, but it may be a little on the shallow side.
Regarding the spawn ratios, remember that they are measured with hydrated coir.

Hi all newbie this forum and to growing mushies. Have been spending like a druncken sailor last 2 weeks getting all the basic equipment to start up. Have read a lot of information on this and other forums, you tube etc. and one thing I can't seem to find any information on, what's the optimal temperature for fruiting conditions. I keep reading about 20-22C but what I don't understand is where I live (Melbourne, Australia) magic mushroom season is the middle of Winter which ranges from anywhere between -4C and 6 or 7C overnight and doesn't reach much higher than 12 or 13C during the day. If anyone can shed some light on this or point me to where I can get some, I would be very grateful. Cheers

Magic mushrooms in Australia are Psilocybe species and not generally cubensis so the growing conditions differ. 20-22 is optimal for cubes but growing in a similar climate will be fine.

Thanks for the reply. So are you saying 20-22C is a good range for all, regardless of the natural growing environment temperature.

We create environments, maintain the correct environment and then external environment plays a small factor.
