So I’ve read that you should wait till PEU is done growing and turns blue to pick them. Is this still the general consensus? And what’s supposed to turn blue?  Caps?  This is what I’m looking at now.

I thought they looked like they were aborting the last pic you posted. Something seems off/weird about them

Here’s a couple more pics of them. Is it not normal for them to grow sideways and back into the sub like that?  I have the light straight above them so not sure what they’re looking for.  Would you even consume these?  I have some more PEU myc cleaned up on agar ready to go but it’s from the same mss.  Should I just try again?

Idk why they are doing that. Those are still good to eat tho. I believe there is some issue but idk what it is, but keep fruiting them out and harvest when ready.
I would start more anyway if that was your question. Trying again, always keep on trying. Mss is a gamble but you got fruits so it's a success regardless. Maybe the cleaner agar plates will make better all the way around.
Good job anyway. You did it.
Also I've never grew PEU so I'm not familiar with the varieties habits and looks.

So I'm a dummy, here's why.  I was putting my first spawn to tubs this morning.  I have 6 of GT and 6 of JMF.  5 of each were to go to tubs.  I was set aside 1 jar of each type to make sure I got a good sniff in case they smelled different because they looked a little different and I don't know what I'm doing or what I'm smelling for.  They all smelled mushroomy, so I was comfortable putting them to tubs.  Unfortunately my dumbass got super excited and opened the first two jars in front of me and started shaking the shit out of the jars and dumping them in, only to realize I just dumped one of each type into one tub... See I told you, dumbass.  I just mixed it up real good and flattened it out and I guess we will see what happens.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has done that and what results from that

Also, I wanted to ask if you think there's anything fishy about any of these pics of spawn.

And does the depth of the sub in these tubs look OK?  I put 4 jars of rye spawn in with 650g (dry weight) of coir.  I guess it would be about 27 oz of dry weight rye berries.

Looking for your full support on this one everyone!  Thank you!

There’s a very recent comment by rumfor in some thread where he talks about putting a quart of spawn from two different varieties in the same tub. The mushrooms just grew up side by side notmally. They didn’t compete, just existed in the same substrate.

You’re gonna be a ok 👌

I'm not so sure about that, mixing grain jars can cause a hybrid to form.

That’s interesting. It would be hard to even tell if JMF and GT hybridized.

There's currently something that a friend here is working on which came from mixed jars spawned.

I won't say more because it's his work but I will post this because it's beautiful.

Example from a while back, 2 different spawn jars mixed.

Well, I'll let you guys know how it goes then.
Can someone tell me quick what ratio coir to spawn is normal?  I've seen 7 quarts to a 650g brick, I think Bods video is where I'm getting that, but then again, I don't know how much sub he actually had in the tub.  Any recommendations?

I do 1:2 spawn:sub. Some people go 1:4. If you’re really confident in your spawn being clean, you can up that ratio. If not, 1:2 is probably best.

I thought your coir looked kinda dry.

I've mixed my 1st time like that too. I had crappy results. They did fruit tho.

They will either make a hybrid or stay separate and fruit individually.

It will be okay.

I'm almost 100% sure you can't form a hybrid from already growing paired up genetics that have multiple nuclei.

Hybrids have to be formed from two different variety of spores germinating and their single nuclei monokarions or whatever they're called meet each other and combine.

Well mine were mycelium from cloned fruits. I didn't think it was possible for different varieties of mycelium to pair up and hybridize when they already contain multiple nuclei. But I guess I don't know a lot about it. My tub I made from accidentally mixing two varieties didn't grow any hybrids.
