80g/1C water 650g/8.125C water
Might be a touch dry?

I usually use verm and don't have any. So I'm not used to just coir.
Plz & thx
Sorry for another non-specific answer, but I always use Smarts Phucket Bucket - Coir prep. It is a little more work the first time but then no more measuring and always the perfect hydration. Doesn't matter which coir brand I use. It absorbs what it can and drains the rest. Perfect every time.
Now I break off some eyeballed amount of coir, add some amount of verm or none at all, then dump boiling (or really hot) water on it. Come back when it is cool and use as much as I need. Use the rest later if it still looks and smells good. No problems yet.

I always just prep my coir on the dry side since even when I use an exact ratio it can come out different due to inconsistency in coir bricks. I try to go dry then I give it a good mist after spawning. Then wait a day or two and if it needs another mist I will hit it again. It always beats having to squeeze every handful to field capacity if it ends up too wet.

I always use verm. I'm pretty good at Making my mixes. Just not this one specifically. Without verm makes a big difference. I used 2.6qts of h20 w/ 650g coir + calcium carbonate. If it's to dry I can fix.
Everybody trying to tell me their way with verm.
I have so many perfect proven recipes in my books, but was lacking this one.
I got 5lbs of millet ready to spawn. Already spawned 15lbs into 5 fruiting bags. That's when I ran out of Vermiculite. I'm out of calcium now too.
Going to have to stock up on all my bag fruiting supplies. Thx everyone for taking time to try and help.

Out of calcium?
"About 95% of the dry eggshell is calcium carbonate weighing 5.5 grams. The average eggshell contains about . 3% phosphorus and . 3% magnesium and traces of sodium, potassium, zinc, manganese, iron and copper."

The problem with egg shells is that those minerals are locked in, unless you use an acidic environment to break them down. They're an ok pH buffer in some hydro systems because of that. If you just chuck them into your compost, they'll be sitting around for years unless you've got critters that will break them down for you. You've got to crush them to get it small enough for the environment to break them down. Milling them down into a power could work in a slightly acidic substrate, I think.

Glad you worked it out Hobbit, my friend.
The tek I mentioned doesn't use verm. It works with verm if you have it and want to use it for thirsty varieties.
Not arguing, just wanted to clarify that for anyone else who stumbles on the need for an easy coir prep method. I also use it to prep 50/50 casing before pasteurizing and even sand mixes for some exotics.

Search Amazon for a silicone cleaning brush and either find a single one or a set there that looks good to you

try
coir weight x 3.5 = water weight in liters
if you're doing 650g to 2.4qts next time i think that is ~3.5x anyway

Ask in the ID forum but the myc is pretty normal for Pan cinct or bisporus, same for the rhizos, stem and cap texture. Everything about that screams PAN to me.

My friend grew some sunflowers this summer, and they’re all currently dry and crispy. They made some nice ~4” diameter heads full of seeds. I don’t think she’d let me have them - I think she wants the seeds - big if she did, do you think you could use that whole head as cube food?

i might be one of the few active posters around that ventured into crazy land. ive used both pinto beans (didnt work well) and sunflax. Both kinda sucked ass, but sunflax can be used somewhat normally.
I'd rinse them real hard and add PC time
the problem with them is the fat, we dont normally use grains with almost any amount of fat. its the "carbs" the mycelia eats, afaik maybe the fibers, but from what ive learned cubes dont eat fat and protein?
correct me if im wrong
