botanygrl26 said: hi beautiful shroomers. I put my tub into fruiting three days ago (@ 100% colonization cuz I didn't know I didn't need to wait) when I added my spawn & substrate to tub, I noticed the substrate was way too dry but I was in my sterile af room and I was afraid to leave to get water so I just mixed it in. Anyways, day 3 of fruiting and no pins still and no more condensation inside my tub. I'm thinking that's a good sign cuz mushies are mostly water so they're sucking up everything outta the substrate? I guess what I'm Asking is, I should water it, right? AND how should I feed my bbs a nice influx of water? I misted a ton a couple days ago but Im afraid to leave standing water bc of contam. SO sorry this is so long. pic of full tub

Partial pic of tub

I actually wrote out a very detailed reply to your original post, but you deleted it so it prevented me from posting mine and wiped everything I wrote.. so I'm not gonna go into as much detail this time..
Contam wont come from water, or prepping sub.. it only comes from bad spawn. Your only sterile procedure is preparing and inoculating your grain spawn. Once that is fully colonised in its jar/bag, it is practically bullet proof. So mix sub in open air with bare hands, leave the room if you need to, it does not matter.
Regarding the tub, you just need to maintain proper surface conditions, lots of tiny water droplets across the surface at all times, but never pooling.
It looks like your myc needs more FAE (full air exchange) judging by how it is spikey and reaching up. Crack the lid or open up some holes. In this instance it would be holes because it looks like you have one of those gimmicky inflatable tubs..
Kinda concerned at the uncolonised patch, has it been like that for a while?
sorry man. I thought afterwards I should've posted here. My bad. Yeah, I built a tub of my own but it takes up so much room in my teeny apt that I gave it to a friend and got this. Gimmicky, yes tho I didn't have the sub very level when I did it and that's a bit of a hilly spot so that's why I thought it wasn't? Is it a bad sign? This is my first grow and I'm so emotionally attached. Looking in now (I found two pins after opening!) I fucking think I see green but maybe it's yellow? Like myc metabolites (/pee) so I'm super scared. Like, a tiny bit in a few dif spots. Your opinion? Also, thank you so much for helping out and if things are ok, I will increase FAE should I put anything over the holes or just let it flow?

I think those surface conditions look good i dunno if I'd change anything especially if it's pinning

Yup very good amount of fine droplets all over, I'm also not seeing so much spikeyness in that new pic. Camera trick?
Your tub might do fine with the FAE it has through the whole grow, some will increase it once the pinset fills in. You can't really experiment much in a single tub but you can see what works well this time and where there is room for improvement in the next.
I'm gonna make an assumption and say maybe you went spore to grain? Could be wrong, but that would explain metabolites which excrete in the presence of bacteria..no big deal

Should I try to spawn to bulk? Gypsum coco and verm? I’ve never had luck been trying for months my last jar. Can I spawn the cake? Dunk and cold shock? It’s a cube. I did do the syringe to grain. Karo and a spoon full of coffee. Any advise would be awesome. I made a liquid culture. So I’m gonna try everything.

It's very bacterial, spawning it is taking a risk but does work a fair amount of the time.
Your chance of success will be higher if you top fruit from the jar however.
User A.k.a said something like "if a bacterial jar colonizes all the way, 90% of the time you'll get at least one good flush out of it"

So just coco coir the top? I tried that before and it contaminated after 2 weeks. I keep it as sterile as possible. Self healing top and fiber.

Yessir. It must have been super fucked spawn before to trich out a little bit of coir via top fruiting.

I’ve had awesome luck with popcorn tek soak for 24 hours I put in a tad bit of coffee grains. Then I boil them on low for 45 mins and add a tablespoon of Karo light corn syrup. Put them in the PC with self healing lid and microfiber. Colonizes In 2-3 weeks in a quart size jar. I got the mycelium part down (after 6 months) fruiting I can’t figure it out. Any pointers? Wishing you the best of luck.

Probably. I didn’t take it as serious before. After you throw out your colonized mycelium a couple times you learn, do need to sterilize the coco coir? Add verm or gypsum?

Verm helps retain moisture, and gypsum really isn't necessary. You can go straight coir but coir and vermiculite is preferred.
Tap water of any temp is fine to hydrate your coir. I just use hot tap water anyway. No sterilisation or pasteurization needed.

Going by those jars the mycelium part is what you don't have down. Contaminated spawn is the cause of contamination while fruiting. If the spawn is clean then you gotta try real hard to mess it up fruiting cause it wants to fruit if the conditions are even slightly favorable.

I recommend check out all the pics in the How It Should Look and Clean Spawn Checklist links in my signature then compare those to your jars. It's what helped me a shit ton.

I see you said you went spores to grain and that's probably your problem. Spores aren't sterile so you'll always be rolling the dice. I suggest learning some agar tek from my links and getting good at that. It's a better way than spores to grain.
