I have, and so far its not conclusive.

Do you guys think there would be value or need, especially for new growers, in a write up that shows and describes the stages of growth for the different varieties of shrooms? Mostly to aid in identifying when peculiar varieties like Jack Frost and APE should be approaching optimal harvest time.
I see a lot of posts, and post a lot myself, asking about when a fruit I’ve never grown before is going to be ready.
Anyone think this would have value?

Not 100% sure what your asking..
If by fin you mean this
 Versus something like this

Then you wont know till further into the fruiting process, they both kind of start out the same, ime. I usually get a mixture of both.

Yes.
There is a thread here that's not variety specific, but very useful, and worth checking out to give you ideas for what you're describing:
"How it should & shouldn't look" (at every stage) https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17231150#17231150
I've got something to add as a footnote if you do it, I have x7x clone that often has light blue / purple bruising on the mycelium from any light misting / fa, or maybe just from growing.
I thought it was contam first time, but most tubs of this have it and no contam. It doesn't rub off, doesn't smell, and just is, and these shrooms are near PE strength (ironic since PE often does not bruise much / at all):

What's the most efficient grain bag sizes to run in a 23qt?
(What number/letter unicorn bags are you using, how many bags per 23qt load and how much grain in each?)

Howdy y’all. So right before I got agar up, I was using Josex’s PF medium pucks to sorta hold genes over until I could get things going. I also experimented with germinating swabs, and it works super well. Just put a drop of sterilized water to hydrate the swab and stick it into the medium.

This is Avery’s Albinos. I’m going to take a sample from close to the edge once this puck is fully colonized and put it to agar, but I’m wondering: could I take a slice and safely stick it in some grain?
What would you do with this if you had it?

While it does look pretty good. It'd be like transferring a germ plate to grain basically. You could try it just to see.

That’s sorta how I felt about it. What I keep wondering lately is why so few PF jars develop any kind of mold contam given how many spores are likely on any given fruit and therefore inside any given syringe. Bacterial is usually the biggest concern, but why not mold? So my big question is then why wouldn’t these also be likewise resistant? I fully expect this puck to not have a bacteria problem, but who knows if there’s some kind of mold growing alongside it.
I’ll probably throw some coir on top and toss the whole thing in a ziplock for fun.

They are.. but if you toss it in a grain jar, when you go to shake it, it will break up and you'll lose that "resistance" because any small bit of contamination will be able to spread quickly

Makes sense.
Got plenty to sample for plates, though. Then we’ll see if we can top fruit it for shits and giggles.

I don't know if brf is resistant as much as it is a small contact point matrix. A squirt of spore solution say has 10,000 spores and 1,000 of them are contamination. They all stick together closely in contact point in the brf matrix and in that ratio the spores you want outnumber the ones you dont by 90%. They're able to outperform the contams from the syringe.

Thanks, I think those might be the ones I am currently using.
I also fit 6 (x 1.3kg), but I raised the trivet pretty high to keep the bags out of the water so I think if I I get a proper steam rack I should be able to squeeze a little more grain in. That's why I wanted to see what sizes people are running. :p
For me, p9hu6's way of loading bags is way more convenient than the accordion fold, but is also the reason I wanted the bags so high out of the water.

Love it! I wonder if you could use the same technique swabbing the inside myc of a Mushie to clone. Or any clean myc. 🤔 The Smelly stick! Lol
