If my horse actually won some races heโd get triple washed. As it stands, we wash them twice.

Depending on the type of ant you can bait or manage. Most ants, you can bait with targeted poison. They bring it back to the nest and it kills the queen.
Unfortunately, in my area, we have Argentina ants. Unlike typical ant colonies, these ants maintain multiple queens!! So, the more you kill, the more queens they make and the more eggs they produce. So, prevention/deterrence is how you manage them.
I use diatomaceous earth. I dust any lines of ants I see. I dust around whatever they're trying to get into. And I try and find out where they're coming into my house and dust there. DE is completely safe. it's the silica shells of dead diatoms. On a microscopic scale, they're like tiny razor blades. When you dust an area with it, to the ants, it's like creating a forest of razor blades! The diatom shells cut the waxy layer that coats the outside of the ant, which normally allows them to retain water. With the waxy layer cut, they will become dehydrated and die.

Do I need to upgrade my lighting for my setup now? Finally got the basics down and can grow decently and have 10 tubs going at once! I've come a long way from my first nooby posts
My shoeboxes directly under the light are growing pretty vertically but the others are leaning quite a bit towards the center so I'm assuming it's the lighting and not my technique/genetics?

Yep. It works to preempt a problem with bugs that might already have eggs in the grain.

Does diatomaceous earth work for slugs outside? I have some that I have been putting in my bags of rye, but does it work outdoors? I guess rain would wash it away.

It does. You just have to reapply after it rains.

You'll still want to inject below the dry verm layer

if you use a dry layer. Since you're using LC, you can just make a full size cake (no dry verm) with a filter on the lid.

Doesn't work for slugs.

You can use salt for slugs. Pour salt on them directly to kill them, put a ring of salt around things they get into. It will need to be replaced if it gets washed or blown away. but it will work far better than DE for slug problems.
